Remember the good old days when you had to walk at least a mile to the oval, or it seemed like it when I was a kid, and that was just from the bus stop

I remember going to a Sturt Glenelg game in 83 I think, beautiful sunny day with Motley tearing the Bays apart infront of 11-15,000, it seemed like it anyway. I reckon my dad and I walked about 1km or more from the car.

I remember going to the Bay one day, took a chance and turned up the street alongside the oval, it was right on start time, someone had pulled out directly opposite the turnstyle, I slipped in there, crossed the road, paid my money, and saw the game right from the first bounce.

Another time we played at Woodville, I had a small Datsun Van, it was about 8ft long, there was a spot two cars from the corner, just big enough for me, slipped into that one, walked about 20 meters to the gate, paid and went in watched the game, South won as well so it was a double win for me that day.

Good thing about barracking for South, you can always get a park and you dont have to leave home to early to get a good seat.

I guess when Westies play there they just bring their wolfpack and sleighs.

I believe that the cost for a car around the ground is $4-5.

1. Sturt supporters would be advised to get there early and park their Range Rovers and BMW 4wd's in the back row so that they dont block the view.
2. Security staff will also check your vehicles on entry for alcohol, so leave your cases of chardonnay at home please.
3.There may be some undesirables about so inform spouses or "significant others" to refrain from wearing their pearls.
4. It could be a tad chilly so bring your tweed caps , sharks tooth jackets with the leather elbow patches as well as knee rugs and thermos.

All Sturt need is 20 supporters and they will double the South supporters.

And quadruple what Sturt got in the early 90s.

How to cope with Sturt supporters outnumbering you at your home ground:
1. Sit on the roof of the stolen car you came in with to see over the Range Rovers. Doesn't matter if you dent it, it's someone elses anyway.
2. Place dole forms in on Thursday, so you'll at least be able to afford 1 pint.
3. Show all good behaviour bond/parole documentation to security on entry so they can keep tabs on the undesirables.
4. Just go for a surf and don't bother coming to the footy, you won't see anything you like from the Panthers anyway ;)

South supporters will pay for your ticket, they need some people in the ground.

...meanwhile back to the game.

I expect South to come out pretty determined after such a deplorable effort in the last quarter at Alberton. Sturt will be far too strong across the board however and weather conditions permitting will win by plenty.

Nelson and Martin are out but how about the quality of their replacements, Tristan Gum and Craig Evans?! A Magarey Medal favourite and both represented SA earlier in the year.

Martin is not in the Crows final team so will line up for Sturt. Probably rest Gum in favour of Evans :?:

PANTHER CROWDS

It may surprise some but if South can hold up their current home average this season (need 3,320 in total from their last 2 home games) it will be the FIFTH SEASON in a row their home crowds have increased.

2005 - 1530
2006 - 1768
2007 - 1901
2008 - 1931
2009 - 1991

Given the on-field performances in that time (bar late 2006) that is a great acheivement and a sign that slowly but surely a supporter base is building down South.

RADIO COVERAGE

With four games on at the same time and just two radio broadcasters the South v Sturt game is one that misses out.

For those that can't get to Hickinbotham and want updates LIFE FM 107.9 ( http://www.life.on.net) will be crossing to
John Bevin from the Messenger Press pre-game and at the end of every quarter.

We will also provide regular score updates every five minutes or so during the quarters.

You would think they would be able to get the total they need from those last 2 games which is a good result from South. Hopefully it turns into some on field sucess for them soon, just not today ;) . Would be quite interesting to see what their crowd averages would be like if they made the finals a few years in a row.

It's pretty blowy down here at Reynella so I guess it will be even more so at Noarlunga. Will be a tricky match and it might bring the 2 teams closer together then what everyone is expecting. No signs of rain atm, and there is only some small showers over Kangaroo Island and Yorke peninsular on the radar. Nothing that will last longer than 5 mins though.
