Cheers for that Brod.

I'm glad Into My Arms got in there.
I agree with the post above about Enter Sandman...way better Metallica songs than that.
Hopefully Puppets gets in there too.

Will any Spiderbait songs rate in the top 30?

Hope not.

Don't mind Spiderbait, but top 30 of all time - no.

YOU could call it the revenge of the parents.

While the audience of the ABC's youth network Triple J is predominantly 18-25, an age when most people are still defining themselves by how they are not like their mother and father, their musical choices don't always reflect this quasi-rebellion.

This weekend the national network will count down the final 20 songs voted by its listeners over the past few months as the hottest 100 songs of all time. If the 80 songs already announced are any indication, the chances are at least some of the final 20 will date from well before most of the voters were even born.

So far, such unlikely youth favourites as the Rolling Stones (1969's Gimme Shelter) and Bob Dylan (1965's Like A Rolling Stone), Led Zeppelin (1975's Kashmir), Jimi Hendrix (1968's All Along The Watchtower) and the Beatles (A Day In The Life, Hey Jude and Come Together) have been mixing it up on the list with songs you won't find on any golden oldies station, such as Tool's Stinkfist.

Are you asking what's going on with kids today? They are at Triple J. Robbie Buck, an announcer there for 10 years, conceded many of the older songs would not have been played on Triple J since the first Hottest 100 was run 20 years ago and he was dumbfounded at their appearance.

"Things like Crowded House [Don't Dream It s Over] and Elton John's Tiny Dancer we usually leave that to Mix 106.5," Buck joked. "I think there's probably quite a few songs here which have made it into magazine lists of the best 50 or hundred blah blah blah of all time and I wonder whether people put it down on their list because they are supposed to be in lists like this and it becomes self-perpetuating.

"But that said, the vast majority of those in there are great songs."

And also, Buck argues, it is evidence that the supposed scourge of the music industry, online sharing and downloading of music, may in fact have helped rescue these older songs. Songs such as Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah, Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit and Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart will probably poll well, and a Powderfinger song or two might be there or thereabouts. But no Lionel Richie. Probably.

The final 20 songs of the Hottest 100 of all time will be announced on Sunday evening.

Hottest 100 Of All Time 2009

1.Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
2.Rage Against the Machine - Killing In The Name
3.Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
4.Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
5.Radiohead - Paranoid Android
6.Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
7.Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
8.Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under The Bridge
9.Foo Fighters - Everlong
10.Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
11.John Lennon - Imagine
12.Oasis - Wonderwall
13.Radiohead - Creep
14.The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
15.Radiohead - Karma Police
16.Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
17.Hilltop Hoods - The Nosebleed Section
18.Muse - Knights Of Cydonia
19.Metallica - One
20.White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

I thought that the top 10 was pretty average, but i guess thats because the songs in there i am not really a fan of.
10-20 was quite good listening. I also thought there would be a few more Muse songs in the countdown.

It would seem the downloading/singstar generation is hurting the Australian music heritage for there to be only one Aussie song in the top 20.
