There are plenty of reasons why batting was easy, the pitch was flat, the ball didn’t swing, the ball didn’t spin as much as the Sky commentators seemed to be praying it would, and the English attack was flat.

But the main reason was that Ricky Ponting was so dogged and determined that there was no getting past him. It was, if I may enter a new cricket phrase into the vernacular, a **** you hundred. The definition: a middle finger to any doubters he has, to the opposition if they get on his nerves, and to the media who is questioning his boys. It is his way of screaming **** you; an artist uses his brush, a singer uses his throat and Ricky uses the bat. It comes from pure frustration and anger, but usually looks good to those who watch. He brings them out when something really gets to him.

Hehe, the 'f*** you hundred', I like it :D

Australia's best chance of winning, would be to try get a lead of 150 - 200 by the close of play tonight, if possible, have 10-15 overs at England before stumps.

I think there is probably no way of England being able to now win the match - unless they knock the remaining 9 Aussie wickets over for less than 150 tonight. Their bets result would be a draw and they certainly won't mind the rain.

I think the key to it is get as far in front as possible, would rather not have to chase more than 150 on day 5

Came across this quote in an article this morning. I think they are way off the mark though. Surely Broad not being able to bowl for the rest of this match would be a positive for England not a negative   ;)

"To make matters worse for England, paceman Stuart Broad was battling a calf injury and there is no guarantee he will bowl again in the Test."

Also rr... I was gutted when I heard that news... Broad bowling as much as possible can only be good for the Aussies!

Will we see the return of S. Harmison for the 2nd Test?
I don't know who'd the Australians (other than Phil Hughes) would prefer more? I think Harmison has proven that he is more dangerous than Broad and England's attack lacks venom, with currently only a semi-fit Flintoff to provide any form of aggression...

Harmison can be dangerous at times but he can also be a massive liability when it goes wrong for him. That happens quite a bit as well. Onions would be the option the Poms would go for i reckon although it's unlikely that they will play 2 spinners again so both Onions and Harmison could be brought in if Broad is unfit.

Australias answer to our all-rounder problems
Today vs Pakistan A
40 (2nd highest score)
0/70 off 10 overs.

On par with Watto? ;)

You cant be serious.

If we bat all day 3 the test is over.

We saw history last night gentleman. The greatest test hundred ever made at cardiff by Ricky Ponting. Once he got to 25 you knew he was in for a big score.

It will not be beaten for a long time IMHO.
