Off spinners they say? Tim May perhaps? Very underated IMHO. He was as good as it gets with genuine off spin bowling.

Actually Im not the expert on cricket most of you lads are, but I always rated Mayzie highly (and not just via the SA connection)

I think you heard it wrong. They were questioning why a countgry who produced Warne, Grimmett, O'Reilly etc, couldn't produce a good enough leg spinner for this tour. Then someone asked about off spinners, and they mentioned Mallett ... but they were talking about current leggies.

Good cricket by Pietersen, a couple of quick singles. That's one wicket I'd like to get early.

Just as an aside, the Poms haven't got anyone over there that can design a ground that shaped anything like an oval?

... and while I type this, Bopara gone.

One of the worst innings I've ever seen by Bopara finally comes to an end to a terrible shot but he looked a bit scared out there.

Great stuff MJ.

Wasn't all that impressed with Bopara .. not as a Test number 3. No doubt he has ability, but his shot selection wasn't the greatest. Maybe he'd be more dangerous on a pitch where the ball is coming onto the bat a bit quicker. Too early to tell, but 300 may be a good score on this wicket.

Don't think Bopara is test standard so hopefully they'll stick with him for the series. :D

Dunno about a good score yet AH ... let's see how it settles down in the next session.

Australia won the first session I'd say. KP is still in though, we need to get him out and we are on top then. Bowlers are bowling well.

Definitely the Aussies, but need to capitalise in the 2nd session ... the ball is moving a bit, there's a bit of bounce and the poms are playing some streaky shots.

That depends on what happens in the 2nd session. I know, that's sitting on the fence, but we need another 3 poles in the 2nd session to be on top.

One thing about Pietersen. He's a traditionally poor starter, so Ponting needs to get the field up and not allow him to take those quick singles to get his confidence up. If we can pick him up early after lunch, Aussies are in good shape.

Good session by the Australians with three wickets, all quicks looked good after the first 5 overs. Like AH said we need a couple of quick wickets in the first hour after lunch. With Englands batting line up looking to score quickley with the help of a small oval they could be back on top in an hour.
