Whereas an inability to think for oneself is considered a drawback in most professions, it can be a distinct positive if pursuing a career as an AFL footballer. :)

Disagree to a point. The previous 2 coaches had an underdone list which tried their guts out much more than this current crop.

I'd really like to know which other coaches he feels have been sacked by Norwood through player inactivity. The answer, of course, is none. Just someone typing away on the keyboard without thinking first.

I could tell you the precise reasons why Roberts, McIntosh and Lewis weren't reappointed, but it's Norwood's business, not that of this forum.

I did post earlier in the year that Nathan Basset had already been groomed for the job, maybe he has now been told to consider his future while on his overseas holiday, expect a decision on his return.

No, he hasn't been groomed for the job and in essence, his work with u/18s players is basically just an opportunity to stay a bit involved with footy after his retirement. He is currently fulfilling many of his life ambitions - new father, walk the Kokoda track, go to the Ashes in England etc. And I reckon a few AFL clubs have sounded him out as an Assistant already too. So, don't expect Bassett to be the next Norwood (league) coach.

Quiet day in sporting world then........but good to see the SANFL getting some exposure even if it is at Trevor Hills expense.

interesting seeing wimbledon had only just finished

If a coach had re-signed instead of resignining would have it been the lead story?
They would probably prefer a negative story than a positive one.

Bassett , Primus , Cotton , Jars , Carmen, Phillips, Pyman, Lee, Neill , Steven Rowe and heaps more will be spoken about but its all speculation as is always the case. Interesting the names though.

I would like to see Rowy coach us but i reckon his 5aa commitments would prevent that even if he wanted the job. Any assistant from centrals would do me as much as i would hate to say. I think we need a coach that has come from a winning culture not a losing one like ours has been in the last 7 years. Maybe get dail Lewis back.

Done deal trust me - Oatey faction stitched it up.

Bassett league coach
David Oatey U18s coach (chasing his gun under 16 group through)

David Oatey never spoke a word to Trevor Hill in last 18 months

Hill put Potts into U18 role to get him out of senior ranks and p!ss Oatey off.

You have to understand politics is alive and well in footy clubs.

Wouldn't both James boys have a crack at it?

Brett's the one coaching Kersbrook now and is an ex Captain of the NFC

Sound's like Bassett may already have the job but if either of the James' were to get it for next year, I'm betting a lot of youngster's who didn't go on with a league career in the last couple of years will be pursued vigorously to give it another crack.

I sat 5m from the 2 of them sitting in the coaches box chatting the other night when Norwood and Westies had a triple header with League, reserves and U18's on the same day.

No question that Hill and Oatey didnt see eye to eye. I to believe most of the above is correct.

History says our last three premiership coaches have all come from outside the club with a clean slate upon arrival, and set about the task.

Very true Rog, and it's the avenue I would hope was pursued provided the right person with the right idea's was available.

I think what muddy's the waters a little for supporters and decision makers is that the last 2 Norwood coaches also fit that criteria you mentioned.

We just need to devise a plan as to which direction the club must go in order to achieve future success, then we must interview as many people as possible to see which one fits the bill, then appoint them. Whether they played for Norwood or not is irrelevant, although I will say I would be very disappointed if someone with a completely fresh and differing outlook on football wasn't top of our agenda.

Agreed on that with the last two coaches, but I think our current internal processes haven't been working with strong succession plans, so I would like to see us bring someone in with a strong CV and who we believe in to do the job. We give them 3 years to try, and we know by the third year how they are progressing. I don't think anyone can enact serious change in one year, particularly with the restrictions we about to be under.
