Interesting there have been no Michael Jackson death notices in "The Advertiser", I remember heaps after the deaths of John Lennon and Elvis, with quite a few appearing in the "in memoriam" column even after 20 years on the anniversary of their deaths. I would say MJ might be in the top 10 of greatest American entertainers/musicians of the 20th century. One thinks of in no particular order Elvis, George Gershwin (absolute genius died very young in 1937 my personal choice for no1), Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Junior, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly,, Louis Armstrong and a throng of black Jazz composers and musicians from the 1920s -1940s. These guys were superstars in their era. Tough competition.

Entertainer for sure.

Musician?

MJ could've taken the torch from Marvin Gaye.

But continued making pop fluff until the very end.

Seems he never grew as a person or artist...

Was the "other" side to Jacko, concentrated more on the molestation charges etc.

Bit concerning during parts.

I don't want to appear callous but ... FFS, bury the poor fella and let us all get on with life.

All the leaches are trying to make as much money as they can out of this ... just remember him as he was (whatever that means for you) and move on.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

FFS it's 1980 all over again and I'm back in high school dozing my way through year nine maths at Daws Road High School with Mrs Brock. The lesson ends and I go outside and on the loudspeakers I'm hearing 'Can You Feel it', 'Don't stop till you get enough' and 'Blame it on the Boogie' at lunch time.

Then I looked at the charts and saw 'Black and White' and 'Bad'....What the? Hang on...it's actually 2009 and Jacko is ruling the charts once again. I'll bet the boss of Sony Music cracked his first Viagra free erection in a decade when he heard Jacko had passed away.

regards,

I didn't watch it live but saw some "highlights" on the net. Did anyone find it extremely ironic that Michael fought so hard to hide his childrens faces from the public for so many years only to have them paraded in front of millions once he was dead???

Spent most of last night trying to not watch it...schedules were pulled apart to show it live on at least 4 terrestrial channels here. Had to get past the highlights on the BBC at 10pm to actually see some real news.

For anyone devastated at missing it...don't worry...they said it's going to be brought out as a dvd soon (seriously, it is)

How much do you want to bet that the other Jacksons will do a world tour, with Janet of course, in 'tribute' to Michael Jackson and his music, it's what he always wanted etc etc. KerCHING!
