yeah totally agree, the only reason i use to listen was to get the sqauds before friday Advertiser but now that i have more regular use of the net SAfooty does the job earlier.

Also find the interviews and show very predictable, with the same questions been repeated each week. It's great for the SANFL to have such a radio program on air but for me i don't get any insight into the SANFL which i don't already know or get on SAfooty.

firstly this is the wednesday morning show they're talking about & for all the knockers out there why don't you offer your time to do it with so called better questions etc

yeah my comment was aimed towards the Thursday show but i have similar issues with the Wednesay show as well.

BUT yes Bayman the show is perfect and in no way, shape or form could be possibly improved.

I would love to help as i have done my advanced diploma in journalismn which included a diploma in radio studies and have spent time on air on Fresh FM's freshly squezzed but unfortanatly i have a six month old daughter who needs my love and affection more than i need to be on the radio.

Thanks for all the feedback (except Eagles  )

I confess the name "Outside 50" was my idea, goes with the slogan "we're Outside 50 but we're having a shot". (you would be amazed how many times something similar comes up in a call now).

I especially like it when other stations call this as part of say their AFL broadcast promoting our show without even knowing it.

I just wanted something different to the traditional Wednesday Morning SANFL show.

Outside 50 isn't used elsewhere (to my knowledge), it's short, catchy and our show is suppossed to be a bit "outside" the norm as well.

That said Dutchy's proposal of "NO IDEA" is growing on me :)

When John & I were given the opportunity pre-season by RPH to do something with Wednesday Morning after PB left, we had pretty much a blank canvas to work with.

The previous issue had a summary of the round, a chat to Warren Partland, a player/coach, a weather man interview and an AFL chat with Andrew Capel.

What we try to do is not simply repeat what already occurs. Fiveaa do plenty of player/coaches interview on Sunday night, Chris Kendall, John and the RPH reporters give a comprehensive summary of each game Monday morning. Thursday night has a preview element and more player/coach interviews plus of course the teams.

So we came up with the following
- Following up on the main issues / highlights that arose from the weekend (after a few days down the track)
- Updated news that has occurred since the last show on Monday
- Some in depth discussion on an important issue (covered from an SANFL perspective) not an AFL one as often done in other mainstream media.
- Focus on club by club news such as injuries and activties
- Throughts from experts (ie Warren & Zac).

We have also managed to get the show on the SANFL web site, helping them with their content and promoting the show to a wider audience then those who listen on Wednesday.

The show continues to evolve and given it is done for the benefit of our listeners ie YOU... WE WOULD LOVE ANY IDEAS ... WHAT DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD INCLUDE ??!

As an example what we are hoping to do is a bit of a club in focus session in upcoming weeks where we speak to an off-field leader about the club, what they are doing behind the scences etc.

The three of us are sharing a car to Waikerie tomorow, so get your ideas in tonight and we will discuss it before the next show.

Constructivly.

nine times out of ten i find football player interviews are generally always the same question with always the same answer unless you have Jason Akermanis. Very predictable and dull. With answers like the team is travelliing well, it's gonna be a tough match this week, im just looking forward to getting back on the park.

I know from my personal point of view, i like to learn something about the individual which would not be common knowledge to most people, al la most people wouldn't know that Paul Thomas was a very average junior footballer and a brilliant junior soccer player. He went through alot in his junior days due to the common thought the only reason he made any of the CDFC junior sides was because of his dad. I would love to here his story of how this all panned out. I also like the players stories and history to here where they have came from.

Anyway thats my 2 cents worth right or wrong.

From one Hammer fan to another ... I agree re player interviews .... that is why we don't do them on Outside 50.

Every so often I get to co-host the fiveaa show on Sunday's (yes I am a media slut) ... and it can be tricky thinking up intelligent questions for players.

Usually I get to ask each rep 3 questions ... the first two I try and think what do the listeners really want to know about the game and the 3rd I try and do one from left field (or Outside 50 !!) just to be different.

Fair responses, I can see where Outside 50 came from now Phil and it is different which sounds like that is what you wanted.....just IMO "outside 50" doesnt get used much in footy talk

Will make sure I tune in this week

but plenty of times by tv and radio commentators

Just some of commentators lines in the last few games admittedly AFL

"With five and a half left on the clock, Fevola kicks his seventh from outside 50 to keep the Blues in touch"

"The Saints again break clear in the third quarter and shoot to a 24-point lead with a series of long goals, two of them to Riewoldt from outside 50 metres."

"The Pies gain the ascendancy with the first goal through Tarkyn Lockyer after he bombed through the first of the match from outside 50."

"Alan Didak capitalizes on an errant Paul Johnson handball and kicks a long goal from outside 50 to take the margin out to 10 points."

"Hawthorn finish the quarter well with Lance Franklin’s long bomb from outside 50 on a tight angle floated through and gave the Hawks a lead of 6 points at quarter time, 3.2 to 2.2."

"Matthew Bate kicks one from outside 50 for the only Demons goal for the quarter."

"Giansiracusa bombs a goal from outside 50, the Bulldogs are back to within two kicks"
I went to a fight the other night, and a hockey game broke out. - Rodney Dangerfield (1921 - 2004)

How about 5-10 mins each week talking about what the SANFL is doing behind the scenes? Could interview people like Whicker, Chandler, Rosser etc and maybe get them to offer some weekly insights into contemporary issues - eg

u16s/u/18s comps - how were they viewed by the league? The future of state footy next year and beyond? SANFL games as curtain raisers to AFL games? League dividends? The future of the SANFL salary cap? The positions the SANFL funds at each club for juniors etc? The SANFL scoreboard on the website? How much penetration does the Messenger have to grow the SANFL market? Ticket prices next year? Themed rounds each year? Creating new traditions to add to things like the Chimney being painted? The preservation of SANFL history? Why can't SANFL games be recognised when VFL games are 'counted' towards AFL records? an 8 team comp vs a 10 team comp, and what would either mean?

Phil, and the rest of us, I would like to hear more lead ups to the upcomings weeks games, in their importance to the comp, so on a Tues a talk between Glen and South (1 V 9), Wed, Centrals V Nwd (2 V 8) and so on leading up to Friday where the main talk is about the match of the round. I realize you are not on every night or morning of the week, but you did ask for ideas.

I would also like to hear more in depth interviews with players and coaches, the injuries clubs have to manage, the younger playes, even the umpires , leaving anything that is uncomfortable of of the questions, just things that people are interested in. More from the CEO or GM of clubs about their activities and what is happenening in the future.

I know you cover all these topics , but I would like to hear more news on the SANFL than we get now
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

Can John Nanks change his first name to Phil as well? Then it could be "Three Phillas (fellas) talkin' Outside 50" ;)

More seriously, any new initiatives for this Wed in the pipeline after the input above?

Thanks for the feedback

There won't be massive changes tomorrow, we will be aware of the need to keep it fresh and avoid repeating was has been said before. Then again with a busy tribunal and the changes at Norwood there will be plenty of fresh news to digest and discuss.

We have sent word out to a couple of off field club officials we would like a chat but we are still to finalise anything for this week.

An indepth preview is pretty much the domain of the Thursday night show ... with 60 minutes to cover 4 games that should be plenty.

Stay tuned for updates as the season progress's, and keep the feedback coming.

Cheers

How about each week they interview the player of the previous round, whilst he is nude jelly wrestling with a couple of naked wenches from either Hotties, The Palace or The Firm?
