The 3 players (M Thomas a late inclusion makes 4) all played in the association game. The other 7 guys from Great Southern (Peglar, Burdett, Maxfield, Cleggett, Ellis, Hodge and Simmons) are quality players and with their being a limit on the number from each league they try to pick as many from the association game that was played at Mypolonga. This game is an Under 25 game and this carnival is geared towards the younger players with their being a forced 6 Under 21s.

The amount of players our club has supplied to this concept over the years is massive and not one player to my knowledge has ever pulled out. Our club fully supports the concept, encourages the players to go and if more were asked, more would go. Who else would you take Clops from our club?

Ridiculous call to have a crack at our club, ur club is sending Craig Smith + 2 x under 21s to my knowledge, no Baylys, Beeching, Joraslafsky the list could go on. Why is that?

fair point, but reality is that there is a cap. if the cap is 10 then your allocated 10 players, cant have them all from willunga.

Clops i may be wrong but Hodgey and Ellis have been selected in the squad and would without doubt get selected.

Brayden has come up before and enjoyed it, so if theyd been asked they might have come.

In the end if the players are asked and dont want to play, then so be it, i know if i were to go i would want players who are committed and want to be there, not players who are forced!

well mate this is were i get confused.to me if willunga have the best 10 players(which they JUST about do)then thats were they should come from.if they wona have a majority of younger players playing, why cant there be say an under 21s game with an open age game with all the best players being made available as well.

Doesnt that make the same number of M/Vale as Willunga players? More teams & players to choose from in SFL, and top 4 teams are closer in SFL than GSFL, so it would make sense not to have a team full of Emus.

Dutchman, we have 4 players selected in the squad.

M Vale have 3, only 1 of the better players (smith) and then 2 x Under 21s who have not been named yet.

My point was our club supports the concept greatly, Cyclops had a crack at that and i questioned why M/Vale didnt have more reps.

We supplied 6 to the association game. I dont begrudge the players who dont want to play in the rep games, but our club can not be targeted as one who doesnt support the higher levels of footy on offer.

ha ha ha ... this is a classic comment! ... they may have more competition!! wouldn't have thought so!! .... i think you'd find that they'd have more competition in the GSFL than the SFL .... overall the GSFL is a closer comp than SFL ...

until the SFL commission realises that they need to reduce/amalgamate about 4 teams to make it a 10 maybe 12 (max) comp where all clubs have teams in each grade and maybe all clubs play each other atleast twice in order to make it a truly 'fair' competition .... well then maybe negative comments can be levelled at the GSFL, until then ... GSFL is a great comp!! the last time a team got beaten by more than 30 goals folded/almagamated!! ... i may have confused or lost you but i've been drinking with Uncle 'Johnnie Walker'!

"only 1" you say? Smithy is worth 6 players, not 1 :)

Comments on Willunga are way out of line. Willunga are pretty fierce rivals of McLaren so I am not at all biased.
Willunga have always been very strong supporters of Association Teams and interleague matches

1. Neil Lang has been trainer for the association squads for years.
2. Terry Thompson the Junior Co-ordinator for the GSFL
3. Herman Lucas up until this year has been the The President and selector for the GSFL for many years
4. Pilmore Coach of Association team
5. Is Pilmore the Coach of the rep team ...Pretty sure he is
6. Portlock been selected for the country side for a couple of years
Not a bad effort from a little country town of 1250 people compared to the 85,000in the Morphett Vale Postcode

I have felt a bit sorry for BJ this morning trying to defend his club from a couple of posters who are a bit narrow minded in their views

I actually think in his own way Cyclops was paying Willunga a compliment by suggesting they should (on ability) have more blokes in the team, but obviously there are many reasons why players do not play in rep sides. Cyclops was questioning (again, in his own way) why Willunga would not have more reps, which is a legitimate question from someone new to the GSFL. Clearly Willunga as a football club support the concept which is great.
Your postcodes theory needs some work. Willunga's team is not picked from 1,250 people, nor is M/Vales picked from 85,000, but i understand your point about Willunga being a credit to the association.

i guess i am just really surprised that willunga dont have more included imo.i would like to see how willunga went against sides such as cove,bri,m/vale etc.ive seen the top sides play in the gsfl and also the sfl,and imo the sfl sides would give willunga a much more harder contest than wot they get in the gsfl, but also do agree they would flog a few more sides also.i for one think willunga is a terrific side.

Willunga regularly play Morphett Vale in trials, also played Morphett Vale & Cove in the messenger Cup.

In the past few years Willunga have had plenty of representation in both Association & Zone footy.

Enough about Willunga....Wait until September

Who will win in the GSFL this weekend

Victor easily against Pongy
Strath to reverse the first round result and beat Goolwa
Langhornes will be too good for Yank
Mclaren in a hard slog against Encounter Bay
Willunga ( if they relax after last weeks big day) might be challenged by Compass
