blink wrote:Ok boys - with July 8th rapidly approaching and no more Tests scheduled for the Australian team, who do you think should be in the First XI for the First Test of the 2009 Ashes at Lords?

Here is my team (in batting order):

Phil Hughes
Simon Katich
Ricky Ponting
Mike Hussey
Michael Clarke
Marcus North
Brad Haddin
Mitchell Johnson
Brett Lee
Peter Siddle
Stuart Clark

Obviously the touring squad of 15 or 16 hasn't been picked yet, but this is who I would like to see wearing the Baggy Green on the morning (or evening, in Australia) of the 8th July @ Lords.

What do others think the team should be?

WOOHOO, I didn't realise it was then. My contract here runs out on 8 July, so I'll be able to watch it all!

Unbelievably, Micheal Vaughan and Steven Harmison haven't been included in England's training squad. I thought they would go 'Dad's Army' all the way. Not a good sign for mine.

I do feel a bit sorry for the guy but the selectors need to wise up to the fact that his body will never be able to hold up to international cricket. Let this be the end of the Watson saga please [-o< [-o<

Ferguson or Hodge mentioned as possible replacements.
I may be slightly biased, but I hope Ferg gets the gig! Being part of an Ashes Tour (not necessarily playing) would be highly beneficial for his development.

Agreed. Hodge is s**t when facing a swinging ball - which is what he should be expecting in England.
Rarely middles them and the only middle he consistently hits, is the middle of the outside edge!

Having said that I am not sure how well Ferg has played in England? I seem to remember WCP posting something a while ago about him making a bucket-load of runs over there a season or two ago. Maybe WCP can shed some light ;)

Ferg should get the chance. Hodge is finished as an international player. His own fault too after his "lawn bowls" comments last year. What a goose.
