South Australia's substantial German heritage offers some interesting ones too - some have gone back to the German names and some haven't.
This list is not entirely accurate about reversions - Germantown Hill is near where I live and is clearly signposted as that.

Cheers for those Psyber.

It's the indigenous names I find interesting...not only did they sound like places in fairytales to a kid like me but they're also usually descriptive so they're an fascinating insight into how an area/place might have changed.

...and who knew Croydon was an aboriginal name that'll be a surprise to those in south London  good old Wiki.

The German bit...not really so interested...already got more than enough German herritage in the family to last me a lifetime...but thanks anyway.

There's another name I remember, it's one of those 'dry' lakes in the outback - Lake Cadibarriwiricanna - that's off the top of my head how it's spelt.

Tintinara
Naracoorte
Meningie
Riverton
Lameroo

A nice mixture of Aboriginal, German, English, Scottish names in there, then also others who are named after people. I think it's interesting that names have common linguistics about them like Lameroo, Pinnaroo and Wallaroo; then Pimba and Kimba; Moomba and Moonta; Gawler and Goolwa; Myponga and Mypolonga.

There are a million places (and suburbs) with wood in them, I can think of:

Blackwood
Lenswood
Goodwood
Woodville/North/South/Grove/Gardens
Millswood
Kingswood
Woodside
Birdwood
Woodhouse
Redwood Park
Inglewood

and of course, Norwood!

Spelly you're an absolute marvel...thanks so much for that :D

I'm always fascinated by how much place names can tell you about the geography or history of places.

As an example I was born in Ipswich...which is from the name of the river it's on, the Gipping, was Gypswick and eventually became Ipswich. Family home now in Bury St Edmunds...not surprisingly the burial place of King (later Saint) Edmund.

Shame our place names don't sound anything like as poetic or imaginative as some of yours though.

Btw I think I've heard of Woomera...wasn't that a rocket testing site or something???

I've remembered a few more woods:

Longwood
Hazelwood Park
Petwood

Then to go along with Lameroo, Pinnaroo and Wallaroo there's also Taperoo, Buckleboo and Orroroo!
