A little off topic, but there is a fair chance Shirley will play his 100th league game for the Eagles this year. Yes, he is AFL listed, but he is definitely seen as an Eagles player through and through when playing for us.

Pretty sure Farmer is playing ressies this week.

Outs:
If this was a WWT directive :
2 WWT players will miss the 21 man cut on game day to make way for Shirley + Petrenko
Will the players dropped be impressed ?

After the performance by the Eagles last round I don't think any of the player being dropped can put up much of an argument!

mal wrote:QUESTION 5
Split round :
IF its a Crows directive to have the 2 players play for WWT to gain match practice/fitness or whatever, then should they be made to play in the seconds ?
Is that a compromise?

This is perhaps a good idea for this particular case.

I wouldent remotley expect any WWT member to oppose the idea because why would they oppose a move that will help thier side to win vital matches to qualify for the SANFL finals, if the shoe was on the other foot of the other eight SANFL sides I cant see any of those sides complaining about it either.

.

I actually agree with you Sojourner, I'm a little embarrassed about it as an Eagles supporter.

Would agree with Mal that playing reserves may be a reasonable compromise. However, its' not as though either player is coming back from injury - Petrenko has been playing most of the year for either Crows or Eagles, and it is Shirley's fault that he has missed a couple of games.

mal wrote:WWT has been able to select Crows players Jared Petrenko and Robbie Shirley to play SA this week.
Both players are available for WWT thru an AFL/SANFL loophole during the AFL split round
Shirley and Petrenko both played against NM last AFL round

A discussion can be held of the validity of the AFL/SANFL Interchange of players
WWT has gained a percieved advantage playing 2 exceptionally good footballers V SA ?
SA on the other hand has now a percieved disadadvantage ?

QUESTION 1
Should SA be afforded the right to select the following players
OTTEN
VAN BERLO
DOUGHTY
MACKAY

To answer your question about whether South should be able to field the 4 players in question and the answer is:

OTTEN - NO
VAN BERLO - NO
DOUGHTY - NO
MACKAY - NO

On the other hand should the Eagles be able to field the 3 Crows listed players this week the answer is:

SHIRLEY - YES
JACKY - YES
PETRENKO - NO

Once again the AFL clubs can do what they like with their players no matter what rules are in place. Effectively we are just a feeder comp for what ever the Crows and Power need.

Shirley and Petrenko are A.F.C property...when and where they play is not a WWT decision.
It is a bonus for us this week, but we also have had both of these 'travelling emergencies' during this year as well.
WWT is a bit lucky that a lot of our players have been drafted locally but then again we have produced them.

agree with you Jackal
The above also doesn't take into account the week WWT were allowed to play Trent Hentschell in the seconds for 1/2 a game. Now that disadvantaged the team .After 1/2 time the seconds were then one player short .Of course it didnt hurt the result but there are pluses and minuses in both cases .

could it be that they are eligible to play because the eagles had a bye last weekend and so therefore they both played in the eagles last game??

There is no doubt that teh Eagles have had a dream run with AFL players getting drafted locally and also plenty of them being fringe AFL players so they get their services, then this happens

COuld easily argue that they only won the 2006 flag due to their AFL players

Not sure about that Dutchy, apart from Skipworth who else was there? Most of the Centrals premiership teams have had one AFL player, eg Dew, Guerra, Symes.

Neither Shilrey or Petrenko will be named for the AFC next week. Shirley has only played 2 games and Petrenko would not have played if not for 2 late withdrawals last week. Both players are originally Eagles players. Whats the big deal. Surely fans want to see the better players out there? I would have had no problem with Carlile playing for SOuth as he missed for Port.

He was the only AFL listed player in that 2006 side, and just two others (Lindsay and Cicolella) had played in the AFL prior to that.

No. I was talking about the premiership side specifically; this is a list of those players on an AFL list at the time that played during 2006:

Bock - 2 matches
Knights - 5 matches
McGregor - 1 match
Shattock - 20 matches
Skipworth - 14 matches
Vince - 8 matches

Only Skipworth and Shattock played in the finals, Shattock was dropped after the 2nd Semi.

It was actually NOT playing an AFL listed player that helped us win.

I feel that the crows acted unfairly by dropping McGregor back to WWT for the whole season.
