Where's your problem whufc? ;) I didn't have a match-up for Philip Island, but you forgot to list that one. We do get the "Tour Down Under" though.

Adelaide definately has it's good points especially if your into heritage, small, quiet, laid back cities.

BUT if you are an international sports nut there is only one place in Australia to be and that is Melbourne and unfortantaly im not there  Hopefully will be soon though.

At the end of the day it's all personal choice there is no right or wrong, better or worse but the lifestyle i personally like and my hobbies/interests best suits me to Melbourne.

I have a young family so i can't take the risk of leaving a stable full time job to go to nothing in Melbourne but if a job oppurtunity arises both the misses and myself would jump at the chance.

It is a B grade city in the sporting industry, I was taking the urine, I could think of 50 reasons why I'd prefer to live in Adelaide, that would be a whole new thread though, sorry to offend you. I'd prefer to miss out on them events and get them live on TV and deal with our lower cost of everyday living.

Airfares are at an all-time low atm, get 3 friends and share the driving for another alternative to get your fix.

give me a job over there and i will be there tomorrow
I had a job and lived in Melbourne for 10 years and chose to come back.
Unless you can afford to live in the inner city, or are prepared to live in a run down rabbit hutch to be close in, it is not a great place to live as it takes to long to get anywhere.
The only thing I miss is the greater choice available in the supermarkets and clothing stores.

This is the big thing. A women I use to work with spent nearly 3 hours a day commuting. She lived in a McMansion in one of the outer suburbs. She use to say "I love living in Melbourne", which always made me chuckle. Suburbs are suburbs whatever "city" you live in.
I'd miss the variety of gigs more than anything and knowing that if a band is coming to Australia they will definitely come to Melbourne. This is something getting less frequent in Adelaide (and Perth) it seems.

I was in Melbourne yesterday - took Nanna on a day trip.

The city is hilly, the people (particulary salespeople in shops and things) are rude and I paid $4.50 for a 500ml orange juice

Glad to be home

that is true with the gig thing
but like someone said about the sports scenario
get a few mates, find some cheap as flights and go there, alot of the music I listen to, the artists dont come to Aus, but i would definately do that if they did!
reckon it would be better then staying in SA to see them!!

Media who show footage of distressful images in incidents like road accidents, shootings, or tragedies, etc. They don't need to try to show close ups of people the badly injured on stretchers, bodybags being carried out or relatives in distress ... they worst bit is that emergency workers have to waste time holding up tarps to block the view when they have better things to do.

Example is yesterday when they showed the body bag of the 2 year old killed in that massage table accident, and the mother and her other child leaving in a distressed state
