To me it sounds like a desperate bid by the AFL clubs to get crowds up and more interest in it. (plus get more $$$$'s)

Just leave us alone please in our grassroots football ....just the way I like it :)

PLUS - Would Crows supporters know what SANFL footy is?????

Agreed southee

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

NO BLOODY WAY...

Didn't work when they tried it in years gone by and wont work again...

I'd attend the games if they went down that path but would more than likely leave once the AFL game gets underway.

Stupid idea and hope to god that it DOES NOT eventuate, the SANFL works fine as it is, just leave it alone I say.

Rumour was given just after the show went to air at 4pm following the news, instead of going to the first call of the night they went to a media personality whose voice they disguised who then gave three separate rumours, when Stephen Rowe heard the SANFL rumour he nearly wet his pants with excitement and suggested that he would be using his position to push for it to happen.

The biggest f*ckwit in South Australia believes he has a position to use to push for things? Wish he could push the case to have himself shot into the sun if he truly does have an influence over anything.

Last time it happened for an Eagles game i left about 5 minutes before the Power game started, as i was walking out the gate was asked if i wanted a pass out and said no the main game was over and i wouldnt need one....got some very strange looks from the Power supporters and the redcoats.

The opportunity for the players to play infront of maybe a 20-30% full stadium is good, but its no good for the true supporters of the local clubs if they have to pay 3 times more to get in to the ground...never mind carparking, food etc..
Trust the process.

I have no objections at all.
If Fremantle and Melbourne are trying to get a decent crowd to their games,
then I'm happy for them to play a curtain raiser before a Norwood / Port clash.

Wouldn't bother me if SANFL season ticket holders were granted entry for free to AAMI as they would be at SANFL suburban grounds .. And the participating SANFL clubs profit from it

Why not play the AFL game as a curtain raiser to the SANFL game?

That's what the NBA did when it was trying to get off the ground in the states. They used to play Harlem Globetrotter matches as curtain raisers just to guarantee a crowd. :)

Yeah, once a yeah max, maybe. As long as my membership doesn't skyrocket because of it.
Honestly who would benefit from it?
A Crows fan is not going to go any earlier if he doesn't have an interest in the two teams playing which would probably only be one game a year.
The only team(s) it could work for consistently is Port - would solve a lot of $ and identity crisis issues if they played one after the other.

If they didn't charge extra for my membership, gave me a free car park, made sure food prices were reflective of normal suburban grounds and played the game before a Carlton game then maybe....

Otherwise gefugged......

My first thought was NO WAY!

But on reflection it may be good for a couple of (non-showdown) Power games each season, where the SANFL game involves the Port magpies. Maybe a Port v Sturt game as a curtainraiser for a Power v Carlton game. Or Port v Centrals then Power v Western Bulldogs. I reckon these fixtures would be a grand day out and get a better-than-usual crowd too.

Yeah certainly you wouldn't want it more than once a year for each club ... Might be a good way of reminding some of the SA footy-going public what the SANFL is like.

lol and for those clubs unable to reach the Grand Final the players might well get a buzz out of playing in front of 10,000 - 40,000 people.

The SANFL has been sending it's clubs to country zones for games in recent seasons .. I'd guess that quite a few people from the country get to town for AFL games, particularly Crows games.

Im not suggesting there's anything wrong with how things are running currently, but under the right circumstances it wouldn't bother me personally if they gave it a go.

Absolutely deplorable decision and whoever agreed to it should immediately resign due to their incompetence if true.
Mind you lets face it 5AA isn't even close to this site when it comes to competent media reporting.
I've gone to Canberra and Darwin to watch North play but if they play the curtain raiser in front of the morons that frequent Football Park these days then I'll spend the weekend in Melbourne.

My thoughts are it won't work if the crows are playing collingwood and it is a sellout how will an SANFL supporter go watch his team play. It will only work for power games and having the magpies playing their game as the curtain raiser.

I doubt it. IIRC when PAM played Sturt in a curtain raiser to a PAPs game, the crowd at the start of the match was comparable to that of curtain raisers played by other SANFL teams. Bottom line is that the typical PAPs fan (*) does not care two hoots about the Magpies or the SANFL in general.

(*) - note that the good Port people who frequent This August Forum are in no way "typical" PAPs fans; that they follow SANFL makes them exceptional.
