Talk on the national game

Danyle Pearce

Postby Dogwatcher » Mon Jun 01, 2009 11:21 am

I don't normally post much on the performances of AFL players, as I don't nearly watch enough of it to comment.
However, what are Port fans thoughts on Pearce?
I know Motlop cops a lot for being selfish and lazy but to me there are a few question marks over Pearce.
Every time I watch a Power game, I see him flash in and out occasionally.
However, when things are tough, I don't think he's there for the Power.
It would be interesting to know what his HBG breakdown is and also, how many possessions he gets when his team is behind.

I hope he remembers where Unley Oval is.

His efforts after half time yesterday were woeful, sadly he wasnt alone there.

Why did Cinderella run away from the ball? Because she played for Port Adelaide.

I would rather see krackwhore on the wing than pearce. Would give my dreamteam scores a boost. On pearce he definetly needs a decent amount of time in the SANFL. And not just a week. But so do a few others ATM.

He smacks of the sort of player who might need a change of clubs (and move away from his home state) to trigger the next step he needs to take .... a la Farren Ray.

I reckon he'd attract trade interest because there'd be a coach out there who would back himself in to fully tap the potential. He's the sort of player the Crows lack, for example.

As a Crows supporter I wouldn't want him playing for us.

Pearce is quiet possibly the most over rated footballer in the AFL..

Sure he is a wingman that has pace but he never puts his body on the line when it's his turn. It really frustrates me how he gets a game week in week out.

Port can't afford to drop him at the moment.
But he should be trade bait at the end of the season.

I often wonder about Brett Ebert too. I'm sure a one dimensional player such as he would've been trade bait a long time ago if it were not for his last name.

As a Port supporter i like to think that he was put up for trade last trade period. He may have been worth a 3rd rounder, or a mid range ruckman, but even that is probably ambitious on my behalf.

Ebert at his best is quality, i really think he hasn't been able to get his body sound for the last 2 or 3 years. He's also a confidence player so when he's down he stays down for a bit. His trade value last year wouldn't have been worth it, the club rightly kept him on the list with the hope he could find the form from a few years ago.

I was only discussing with a mate on the weekend how footballers ( like Pearce ) get pidgeon holed as 'soft', when I feel the game is so structured in modern football that you are given a role to play , in and under, outside runner and so on that you seem to get so used to that role you have trouble changing when required. I think Pearce is a victim of this and his lack of onions under his belt doesnt help much either.

I can sort of see that point you make Boon.
One thing I've noticed, and I'm not sure if this is a structure thing, but he gets a lot of possessions from not being near his opponent. Looks lazy to me - but could be part of his role.
An example - the goal he kicked against Collingwood where the Pies failed to clear it from defence. I felt he got that kick because he was being lazy and didn't follow his player across and just sat back and the fluffed kick just fell into his lap so to speak.

Pearce - to Sturt, pronto
Ebert - didn't he win a Magarey for playing in the midfield at Port Maggies? I'd give him a run on the pill - just to free him up.

When he played against westies that year he spent his time 50/50 in the midfield and forward not sure what he did against other sides but he did spend plenty of time up forward against us.

Pearce should be looking to buy a house in Melbourne because he has to be traded.

The Crows don't recruit insipid, heartless scavengers like Pearce. Anymore.
