Australia vs. Sri Lanka-World T20

Postby Gozu » Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:52 pm

The game is on late tonight at 1:50am on both Fox Sports & Channel 9. We're probably going to have to win and win big to have any chance of advancing to the Super 8 stage after being flogged by the West Indies in the opening game. Hopefully we get a few more runs out of top order and Lee if picked doesn't get torn apart again. Like last game with Gayle we can't afford to let Jayasuriya go off.

We have to win otherwise WI and Sri Lanka will have more points.

Yeah I know that's what I meant, even if we win we'll still probably miss out.

Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to bowl.

Hopes is out and Hauritz is in.

Aussies need to think outside the square. We are to concerned on image and looking good. Symonds is one of our best player and has a few beers and is sent home. I bet Chris Galye has had a few rum and pineapple juices on his tour. Taity 20/20 specialist and lets have some decent plans against spin bowling.

Mitch's speed is significantly down again. They mentioned that he is going with a shorter run-up.

i think the Aussies were already thinking about Wales in three weeks time, but the Fixturing was bad, How The Aussies, Sri Lanka and Windies were in a Group and you get the Bangers and Ireland in a group, and
Ireland are into the super 8s and the aussies aren't

symonds should hang his head low.. qld should not even let him play, the only reason he will play for his home state is because he wont be able to play for the IPL league..

Ferg should have been in that squad. Madness to drop the form one day batsman in our team. Hes perfect for T20 cos he can score from ball one.

No he should not have been. He has a very ordinary record domestically in 20/20 and quite simply did not deserve his spot in this squad. Brad Hodge on the other hand is a different story.

Didnt see last nights game but it was painfully obvious v WI that the Aussie side was NOT selected specifically for T20...

Lee and Johnson definitely NOT T20 bowlers
Ponting and Clarke definitely NOT T20 batsmen

This is not a sledge, these guys are just suited to longer forms of the game.

MATEEG on the ball with this post

THE SELECTORS F...KED THIS WORLD CUP UP

PONTING too old for this form of cricket
0[1] cost us the game ?
25[15] good dig

CLARKE
13[22]
11[15]
Very good 50 overs player, Very good Test batsman
But a very bad 20/20 player, he simply cannot hit the ball hard enough
24 runs off 37 balls is a shocking return , even our own PUP cant defend him
But it aint Clarkes fault it was the selectors

LEE is ok when FIT and in form
1/56[4]
2/39[4]
problem is , we got him fit and taking wickets but we are out of the tournament
When we needed him in game 1 he frazzled

Why do AU pick batsman at 4-5-6
You must pick the biggest bashers available
I would be batting JOHNSON/LEE at 5 + 6

We left out guys like BAILEY/BIRT/CHRISTIAN/REARDON/CROSTWAITE who are middle order bashers who should be batting middle order in World Cups

WATSON/WARNER/D HUSSEY are ok as can score fast
M HUSSEY/PONTING/HADDIN[unless opening] are borderline players in this format at best
CLARKE must never be selected again in 20/20 cricket, we will only stuff his batting up for more important formats

Opposition sides are stacked with spinners these days
BIRT is the biggest basher of spinners in AU in the middle order

_________________________________________
WE NEED BATTERS WHO HIT 20 OF 12 BALLS
WE HAVE TOO MANY 10 OFF 10 BALLS BATSMAN
__________________________________________

TAIT is still the best 20 over quick bowler when FiT as well

SORRY lads
But I said it b4 the tournament
we cant win a world cup WITH Ponting/Clarke in its line up

FOOTNOTE
This is not a vendetta on Ponting + Clarke
They are the first 2 guys picked in tests

What ever happened to Cameron White, this guy can really bat at T20 level. He would have been the perfect number 4+5+6

Interesting, How can a first ball duck when you are batting at 3 cost you the game? 5 batsmen after Ponting are very capable to pick up the slack and if they do not then they are as much to blame as Ponting.

CLARKE

I am starting to agree with you on this point, I thought his warm up form was fantastic but he just does not seem to be able transfer that form. As much as he seems to want to play i think he has to realise that it just does not suit his game.

LEE is ok when FIT and in form
1/56[4]

I agree.

Maybe Johnson in some situations but never Lee and i would prefer most of the time that Johnson stayed down the order, if the selectors picked the right squad for the 20/20 then we would need to elevate these players because we have plenty of quality 20/20 players waiting in the wings.

We left out guys like BAILEY/BIRT/CHRISTIAN/REARDON/CROSTWAITE who are middle order bashers who should be batting middle order in World Cups

We left out these players because most of them are not up to scratch even in this format.

Bailey- I like him and i think he should have been considered has a decent record and bats pretty quickly (Over 150)
Birt- No thanks, can hit a ball but is unbelievably inconsistent. Only averages just over 20.
Christian- Big no thanks, what has he done to be considered for a spot as a Batsmen? Not much in my eyes.
Reardon- Another no, Averages 18 and only scores at 126. Not good enough.
Crosthwaite- Is a good option. Scores quickly and is pretty consistent but i still think there is better players out there in this form.

All of Hodge, White, Carseldine and Harris (And Bailey) should have been seriously considered and all would be ahead of the other 4 you listed. How White and Hodge cant get a game is beyond me.

Opposition sides are stacked with spinners these days
BIRT is the biggest basher of spinners in AU in the middle order

But how many quality spinners does he face in the Big Bash? Krejza is probably the pick of them and he is in his side so i do not think you can use that as a selling point for him to be in the side.
