Free/Cheap server space

Postby zipzap » Sat Jun 06, 2009 9:40 pm

A mate and I are having a go at doing some interstate recording together, which means lots of transfers of large files. Can anyone recommend a free or cheap hosting service that is reliable? I know of things like Rapidshare and Megaupload, are they any good?

gmail has a 20mb attachment size and 7000+ mb storage

or for actual free server space - http://www.byethost.com/free-hosting
5500mb storage, and 200gb monthly transfer

i dont usually give out this as the service is pretty good and i wanted to keep them to myself :P

That looks awesome, thanks heaps Westsider!

EDIT: After having a look at it is seems that the max individual file upload I can do is around 2mb which is pretty useless. Is that right? If you pay the fee (which I am considering) the limitation would be lifted I hope...though I can't see any reference to that.

Also seems they have restrictions on file sharing/hosting which is what I want it for: May not "upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise material for the purposes of file distribution, relay, or streaming reasons".

All I could suggest is to use winrar to seperate files into less than 2meg segments.

After a bit of research Divshare seems to be pretty good for what I want it for. 5GB storage, 200MB file upload.
