What does Chad Cornes' operation tell us?

Postby Dogwatcher » Tue Jun 02, 2009 3:53 pm

I heard on the radio news today that Cornes' arthroscopy had been scheduled at this time in order to get him back in time for the finals.
Whether or not Port will make the finals we'll find out in coming weeks but is the statement that Port wants to "get him back for finals" a ploy to avoid talk about tanking if Port lose a few more matches in coming weeks?
The statement shows clear intent to make the finals (as the Power still should be aiming for) and can be referred back to later on if the club starts to lose a few games and looks like missing the major round. Unlike last year, when Williams said the club was looking towards 2009.

Interesting way of looking at it...

You would have to think that if they do go the way of "blooding youngster", read tanking, that Williams will be at Port next year as you would think he would want the best result possible at the club if it were to be his last year.

As for the Cornes injury it sounds like they are trying to play it down as if it's not that bad but I doubt they had much choice in whether they do it now or not. He has clearly been hindered by it for awhile.

No doubt. And I'm certainly not having a dig.
I just thought it was interesting the club was throwing around the word "finals" after last year's mid-season decision.

I think they are referring to SANFL finals mate.

Six weeks post op rehab, three games for the Bays after their second bye, four weeks maintaining fitness coming off the bench for Port Power to ensure freshness for the SANFL finals :D :D

All part of our cunning plan.... ;)
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think it,(the injury) is telling us we should of traded him before this happened and got a good draft pick for him. Harsh i know but AFL is a harsh environment. Hard calls need to be made now and then.

I think he's still a really good target for the Gold Coast side.
I reckon it'd suit his lifestyle.

As for Williams, 2010 and beyond, I'm judging by your enthusiasm No Mercy that you've got a pretty good source.

Cornes will be a target for the Coasters IMO. Clean him up and use him for trade bait....

It tells us they should have sent him in when we were 5-3 with Sydney,Collingwood,Fremantle and the week off to come.

Poor player managment IMO.

Sydney and Collingwood games would have been chalked as 50/50 at best and the Freo game a win then the week off would have had him back ready to go the game after the break.

Are you certain about that NM? He has been slow off the mark for a few weeks.

What do you mean an "excuse" anyway? An excuse for his poor performances of late......pretty good one if thats the case.

Well if he wasn't 100% fit why did he play? it was only round10 & i hadn't heard of this sore knee prior.
I think its just a cop out, didn't they start him on Swan in the 3rd & he knew he was in for hiding & put the white flag up simple as that.
They needed an excuse for the loss & used the Cornes & Thomas injuries as that.
Your right pafc1870 he was 100% fit & got bathed.
