CEO APPOINTED TO NEW ROLE

The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club wishes to advise that Chief Executive Officer Matthew Richardson will be leaving the Club after nine years and will be joining the Port Adelaide Football Club in a newly created position, General Manager – Special Projects. Richardson, who joined the Club as Marketing Manager before becoming CEO five years ago, will be moving to the new role in July.

“The decision to leave the Magpies has been a very difficult one for me personally because of what the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club has come to mean to me and my family. When I first came to Port Adelaide I was blown away by the depth of passion and commitment people involved with this Club have and ultimately that is what continues to set the Club apart. I have also had and maintain a great belief in the direction that the Club is taking in terms of building our playing list and I am sure this will set the Club up for its next successful era. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of the last five years as CEO and have very much appreciated the opportunity to work for this wonderful football club. I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from some terrific people and I genuinely value this. ” Richardson stated.

I would like to thank the Board of Directors, staff, coaches, players, support staff, sponsors and members for the wonderful support that I and my family have received with the Magpies. I look forward to the challenges that this new role will present and I am excited that I can continue my involvement with Port Adelaide on a national level” Richardson concluded.

Magpies President Rob Cope said “On behalf of our Board I congratulate Matthew on his new appointment. The Board and the entire football club wish him all the best in this new challenge. In my time on the Board and particularly as President I have enjoyed an extremely strong relationship with Matthew and watched him grow and develop into an excellent CEO. The Club has dealt with some significant challenges and Matthew has played a major role in driving that change in an environment which is the toughest in the SANFL competition. Matthew leaves the Club having achieved some significant changes and whilst we don’t underestimate the challenges ahead, the Board feels confident we are well placed to meet those challenges.”

The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club Board is in the process of putting together a plan to recruit the most suitable replacement for the role, to commence as soon as possible.

Glad to see that the Power, now that their debt issues have gone away, see fit to create a new (high $$$) role...

From experiences at my work, 'special project' roles usually provide no tangilble results...

Nothing against Richardson as I know nothing of the guy himself...

I've always known "special projects" to be a role that's given to someone they want to shift sideways.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Well I guess that must make South Adelaide one big "special project" then.

UK Fan you are an idiot. Richo is moving on to a role with an AFL club as opposed to an SANFL club. He has been there for 5 years through some pretty ordinary seasons, so if he was going to jump ship it would have been before now.
You obviously still have some serious hurt from 1995 and 1996, but get over it and enjoy your clubs success.

Yep 7 premierships later its obviously those lost grand finals from 14 seasons ago that still hurts hahahahaha. Gee you guys have tickets on yourselves.

Hint for Port fans you may want to let the 1990's go people. They like Waterhouse Richo Jenner Saunders Eichner etc..... aint coming back.

Honest question has Port ever been 1-7 before ????

His and your footy club are the bench mark of the competition and have been for some while, so i dont see why everytime he writes on here he has to slag off Port Adelaide... He obviously has some real hate there for some reason......

Plenty of memories of abuse from Magpie supporters in the days when we were shit and you were good sloppsie. Its just fun to be able to be a smartarse after all of those "show us your premierships" comments (plus many far worse).

Mate i dont have an issue with some bagging and banter etc, but he got on here and pretty much questioned the intengrity of someone who i know personally and someone who has put alot of effort into the footy club, and had been offered a job in a better competition, so enough was enough.

Actually I just agreed with what another poster said earlier in the thread Sloppsy. But you are not having a crack at the originator I see. I guess Im not really surprised.

If you honestly think Richo hasnt sold out by accepting the "specialist postion" that is up to you.
All I can say is I beg to differ.

If you think Port Adelaide is the only SANFL club I slag off .Yet again all I can say is you are way to full of your own importance. Which at the end of the day is typical for most Port fans.
