As an impartial, it was pretty average - particularly first half.

Very lucky to get the win today. Dying seconds reminded me about the bay game a few weeks ago. Thought we were going to lose on the siren again. He missed, then it felt we won Alberton the first time in 3 years.Just running out on the ground after the game felt Special.

Special or Delicious? ala Bwuce McAvaney.
And no West won't win the spoon.

Actually Pipers is one of the more balanced, rational and knowlegable posters on this site -if a tad irreverant in his former guise. If you notice they havn't actually balmed it for the loss.

However he is wrong rd 9 1995 (day 1of the three umpires system in the SANFL) at Glenelg oval was the worst umpiring display ever the inconsistancy had to be seen to be believed and their are highlights of it on you tube:

Look for the current AFL coach asking WTF...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Interesting write-up on two fronts in today's paper. Tim Ginever said the first half was the worst they've played in 12 months, thus joining a list of opposition people saying it was their bad play, not West's good play. It's getting to be an enjoyable habit to read this.

The umpiring was also mentioned. Now, I know I'm very biased, so I've kept quiet so far, but I thought we got thumped by the umpires in the second half. In the third quarter, we barely got a free, while Port scored regularly from them, a trend which continued right to the last kick of the game. We got our share of frees in the first half, mostly in non-dangerous positions. We couldn't buy a free in the third quarter, even for a surely reportable head-high attack on Ryan Willits. I'm biased, though, so I kept quiet.

Quote this morning's article "as the Magpies, who benefited from some shocking umpiring decisions".

It doesn't matter, though. For 4 years I've read on here "look at the scoreboard".

Great work, Westies.

There's a long way to go in the season, and plenty of footy still to be played but West Adelaide - any shades of Woodville 1986 coming to mind for others?

They certainly won't win the flag, and if they make finals, it is most likely a year too early for them, but still....this run looks like capturing a few imaginations from where they are coming back from....

Good point this ... Westies 2nd quarter against the Bays earlier this year was very good footy and so obviously they have improved a fair way this year, which I think is great for the competition.

I think the type of disrespect that Timmy has shown with this statement is poor form ... one of the things I respect most about Mark Mickan is his humility and the fact he never takes the opposition for granted and always pays them their dues.

Was it the Dogs poor form last week that allowed Port to nearly steal an unlikely win, or did Port play well for most of the game Timmy?

Not withstanding that, Port are obviously not that far off and are still a very dangerous opponent and are more than capable of knocking off the Bays this week if on song for 4 quarters.

Whats the fifference between mal's comments & those of red&black or dedja?
1 Million $$$ first half to West & no credit to Ports 2nd half effort?
Timmy thinks their 1st half was their worst footy in 12mths & no credit to West.
To me its no different some people just cannot give credit when & where its due, i was at the game & West were terrific with their disposal & use of the ball in the first half compared to Port who were consistantly turning the ball over especially by foot. ( even under no pressure )
Ports 2nd half was alot better & it wasn't that West played bad Port didn't allow them the space they had in the first qtr & Ports kicking for goal was like the way they kicked to team-mates in the first half, (disgracefull)
West deserved the win so be it.

I agree, NM and gave due credit to Port's second half in my earlier write-up on the game.

After half-time, I think Port worked harder and blocked off a lot of the avenues out of defence that West had used effectively in the first half.

I also thought Port had the most inexperienced team I'd ever seen at Alberton.
