Just sound like 2 guys who are a little bitter that blokes who were not getting an oppotunity to play league changed to a different club. I think Willets actually played his first game for West in the reserves too, IIRC.

Bitter? About what?

A young bloke playing reserves moves to another club to play reserves.

Just a little confused mate, thats all, but Im glad you have been able to so clearly explain it all to me.

Nup I just have an issue with AFL listed players chopping and changing SANFL clubs in order to get an "opportunity". To me it speaks volumes of their natural competitiveness and drive as an athlete. As a Glenelg person when we benefitted from the "recruitment" of Parker and Harwood I felt the same.

Tell me how has Handby's, Shir's, Parker's, Harwood's, Willett's, Jericho's et al AFL careers kicked on after they've changed clubs???

I think Willits was a little more established than Lobbe is currently, an unfair comparison. Don't worry Lobbe will play league footy for westies this year but i dont think he would have at Port unless Micklejohn were to be injured.

Not an unfair comparison at all IMO.

Just 'coz you're 6th you think you can just pick and choose who plays for you...

Well not an unfair comparison IMO because Willits had played league footy and played well in patches predominatly at the back end of the ground but Lobbe hasn't played much, if any, league footy and is far from being an established footballer. Funny about picking and choosing isn't that what all clubs do pick who plays for them, every week :? ;) .

What makes me laugh is that Tom Gilligan kicked all this off when he was playing ressies (and rightly so!) for North. We copped it from all quarters but you just can't pick an AFL each week in the League because they are on an AFL list. SANFL coaches have an obligation to play their best in form 21 regardless of AFL ties etc.

Look at North this week - dropped both Sloane and Wade Thompson as they have under performed in their last two games - which I might add is almost a month ago since we last played!

Jacob Surjan would be the only one I could think of that has gone onto have good afl career after changing clubs. Although Im sure it had nothing to do with him changing sanfl clubs that made him the players he is.

Poor old Port fans. looks like the rats continue to leave the sinking ship.

Oh yes, I see. Either you have read my comments and dont comprehend them or you haven't read them at all. I have never said I am unhappy to lose Lobbe or the fact that he has moved at all, my confusion is in him moving to play league football and then not getting picked.

You blokes can do what you want with him,Im just trying to understand why you are doing it.

Its his first game at the club, I beleive if he went to ANY club they would play him in the reserves. Remember that West didnt go to him and ask him to come to the club, it was his (or the Powers) decision to leave the magpies. Because we were bottom last year, we got first refusal.

Did you seriously think he would be picked in the Westies league squad this week.

I think his looking at his chances of playing league over the whole season not just this round.

Port have Meikeljohn and occasionally Maric so he would never be selected ahead of them two.

I reckon he wouldn't get any dew on his boats this week if he was at Noarlunga....

So out of Handby, Lockwood, Gilligan, Surjan, Shir, Parker, Willetts, Harwood and Jericho only Surjan has gone on.... Any other names posters can think off??

Hmm Mr Lobbe not good odds for your career development methinks

Out of all the names mentioned Am bays are you suggesting there careers didn't reach lofty heights becuase of moving sanfl clubs as a AFL listed player? I think it is more a reflection of there ability.

Ian Perrie moved from South to North and it didn't affect his AFL career in a negative way.

As I said in my original post moving clubs IMO speaks volumes on their work ethic and mental toughness to earn a spot in their original clubs league side.

Yes it is there ability and mental application that prevents them from going further, rather than the actual change of clubs IMO so why change clubs.

I could understand it if you were coming from one of the top three sides but to go from a club thats 8th to a club thats 6th - not sure it is going to be in Lobbe's best long term interests IMO.

Hey I can understand Westies supporters justifying the move (you get another player with ability that adds to your club's depth) but seriously is this move really in Lobbes best long term interests - to be an AFL player???

The history of AFL listed players changing SANFL clubs suggests it isn't.
