Tait quitting Shield cricket?

Postby Gozu » Fri May 22, 2009 6:58 pm

Apologies if this has been mentioned else where or in The Advertiser (I don't get it) but there was just a story on Ten News about the SACA's contract negotiations for next season with Cosgrove & Tait. Supposedly Cosgrove isn't happy with their offer and Tait has supposedly told the SACA that he doesn't want to play Shield cricket anymore and only wants to play in limited overs games. It was said that if he doesn't like what's on offer from the SACA he'll look to sign with another team interstate and Tait is currently in England playing club cricket with his brother.

If true, adios.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at the negotiations of these two contracts the bumbling twits at the SACA have already botched a stable mate of their management group for a contract 12 months ago are they about to strike twice? 8-[

That is not the impression he gives everyone else. If that is what he thinks come out and say it and let everyone know rather than giving the impression that he thinks the longer version is boring and a waste of his time.

Didn't Tait come out and say he agreed with Chris Gayle's statement?

Tait has shown he'll do what he wants! Whats the disagreement. Sign him for one dayers!
The real issue here is Cossie... the redbacks need Cossie if they want to win games. See what happens when he came into the side latein the year - he scores quickly.
Klinger, Borgas partnerships were ruining any chance of 6 points!!!!

Agree. Make sure we sign Cosgrove. He might not be the fittest bloke but he makes runs and that's what the game is about. As for Tait what a waste. To think what he could have been had he not been so mentally fragile is sad. He could/should have been leading the bowling attack for the Australian side right now. If he doesn't want to play shield cricket then tell him to go somewhere else because he will just be a distraction otherwise.

How would he be a distraction? There are players in the squad now who play only certain forms of the game, he can be one of them can't he?

I don't really have a problem with someone choosing to specialise in the short forms of the game. I wouldn't have thought it would ever happen but maybe it's a sign of things to come. Why bust your boiler and your back bowling 60 overs over 4-5 days when you can earn more money and stay healthier if you give the long form of the game away?

With his injury history he realistically has 4-5 years (?) to earn the most he can at what he's best at so maybe, from a certain point of view, it makes sense. Especially if he has a family to provide for?

I know it doesn't sound like quite the right thing to do, and it's only a rumour I presume, but I am reluctant to jump down his throat without knowing exactly what he's thinking. There's no doubt he's a gun in limited overs cricket so he may feel it's preparing for and participating in first class cricket that's causing the injuries that are keeping out of the form of the game he's best suited to.

Just another POV ....

Specialisation my arse. Tait doesn't want to represent his state in his chosen sport. His attitude would fit in well in the English scene. I hope he doesn't lob in NSW because we'd probably give him what he wants because we are useless at one day cricket. If Cricket is boring and a waste of time Taity play something else or go and prop up a front bar like the rest of us.

So Watto should stop bowling because his body can't take it, but that's us choosing for him so it's OK. Tait makes a choice that his body doesn't cope with 4 day cricket and he's off his rocker? Give us a break.

Watson can bat though cant he, and he also still chooses to play all forms of the game no matter how bad his injury problems are unlike some....

If Tait had said he is not capable of bowling at Shield/Test level then surely the National and State coaches have to get him to alter his action to ensure his body has the chance to work sustained spells over consecutive days. It is never too late to remodel his action. I feel this point is being missed. It seems it is all or nothing with his action, so why not try and refine it? I would say because it would be too much like hard work.

From the thoughts in here,as mine are too, it appears as though it ( Shield / Test cricket ) is just all too hard for the big fella.

If he wants to play hit and giggle let him,I just hope he doesnt lob on a hard wicket near me anytime soon.

If his action is refined then he doesn't bowl as quick. Then he is worth even less. Best off making the best of what he has, which is the ability to frighten the shit out of batsmen during short periods of bowling.

thats the thing the choice he has made was to do with the size of his heart, i understand his body cops a flogging but if he was not getting spanked in test cricket i am sure he would be fine..
