injury update for my fans lol

Postby Mickyj » Wed May 13, 2009 8:08 pm

The story continues I went back to work Monday did a 10hr day and the wife dragged me to the ER of the Hospital .the quack there said its sprained that's all here's some panandine forte .Lasted two hours Tuesday(didnt take anything to stop the pain got scared about taking the panandine forte at work) got my GP to do some xrays on my left knee and on seeing the xrays he referred me to the QEH Orthopaedic department (been fighting going back there).I need an MRI but u need a specialist to organise one I wonder how many months that will take.
Any way I had some physio today and boy did that bring the swelling out .HER words you need a knee replacement (was told that many years ago with a but).Of course I told her that the specialist wont do that as I'm to young (we both said that at the same time ).And I told her what I told my local GP all they do is walk in and say arthritis no looking at the knee goodbye and walk out .
And we discussed wearing the tube dressing the ER doc gave me I am wearing it but I need to look for my knee brace .Back to wearing that if it stops the knee cap moving out of position I will put up with wearing it.
So way back in history when I was 16 I was told i had this thing that some kids get it wears away the knee cap from underneath .Then no pain for years
9 years ago I had trouble took me years to get the quacks to "fix" my knee.they went in and removed an ulcer (one of the many things I was told by this so called expert he changed stories every visit)Few years latter the same thing they went back in and just cleaned it up .
Now there aint much left and the only thing we know for sure is there's a bone spur and my knee is shot .I hate bending it and sitting here for to long is just a big pain.
So next fishing trip whenever that is I have been told to wear my knee brace .

Hope the physio and a knee brace helps Micky...even if it's only short term. Nothing worse than a bunch of professionals who can all tell you what you need but don't get off their butts and help you get it done.

At least no one seems to have said you can't fish anymore...thank god.

Hey Micky if you need a replacement knee you better be in a wheelchair as my Dad's knee surgeon who operated on him nearly 20 years ago said you will be back to see me one day to get a new knee. He went back to him the other day and said it wasn't bad enough yet for him to operate.

I said to go and see my surgeon who works at a different hospital to get his opinion

Micky I know the feeling I was 19 for the first Op that took out all the cartilage of the Right knee. I am an inch shorter now on one side. (This also affects the ligaments that are now loose because of this.) I have had bits of bone splinter off every so often since then. Just slipping on the wet lawn or tripping over the dog at night. The Specialists over the years have all said we will replace that next time. The countless X-Rays and MRI’s all for nothing. Eventually it gets back to a degree of normality (Read less pain) to enable you to worry about something else in life.

As Heater31 said the doc’s do not want to do it supposedly because they can only do it once and Technology is always improving. Although 5 years ago they came up with a new process and different materials but the glue has failed in a lot of cases and people are now worse off in wheelchairs because of a detached knee. I wear braces, guards, arthritic warmers, etc depending on what I want to do, you know…..sleep, walk, climb steps.

The only thing I have found is to try to keep it moving particularly over winter. Which can be hard after an episode as you have just had. I once walked out a bone splinter in the knee joint in between the X ray and the specialist appointment. :(( :((
Good luck :-bd

My dear old mum still works at the QEH and she looked up when I first went there for treatment .
9 years ago I started and I was actually begging to be put on a pension .and these specialist doctors have all told me so much crap over the years its not funny .after the first op I was told so much crap like I was carried of a footy field on a stretcher which I wasn't .first op they supposedly removed an ulcer dont now if they did or didn't .
And every time they tell me replacement they tell me I'm to young then I hear about people in their 30's fatter than me having replacements .
Not that I really want one just for the pain to leave me .so 2 yrs down the gurgler no really bad pain now this.I can put up with the arthritic ache the heel spurs etc etc but not this knee cap moving pain.
I am so scarred to sit or bend or squat down .Sorry just had the pain it makes me feel like throwing up and I get really hot when it happens.

Who would have thought 9 yrs ago power walking would lead to this .and how I worked 10hrs last monday is beyond me .

You should aim higher and battle a salmon....our famous local is the mighty and not cheap River Spey...it's got a farly walker firendly path alongside it too  ;) and plenty of distilleries too if you need a pain killer.

...of course you could also have a go at beating the River Tay's record salmon caught in 1922.....by a woman :D ;) http://www.pkc.gov.uk/Education+and+lea ... Salmon.htm

In the interests of balance...take no notice...Dog_ger's mad

Salmon is disgusting :-& I've tried it cooked, raw, smoked, gravlax and they're all revolting...I'll take trout instead.

Eat any oily fish...it's the oil that's good for you ;) :D

One week to go and I think the only thing that is really helping is wearing my old knee brace .
But next monday I'll keep wearing the knee brace until I finish work at 1(I worked back last week to get 2 hours off) I wont take any panadol.Just to be on the safe side in case the specialists do look at the knee .that would be a first for the hospital normally it was 5 seconds sorry come back or thats it .

Cheers
keep u informed next week guys

Well I'm not sure if that was a waste of time or not ???.
I didn't see a panel but 1 very deaf GP .From what I got from him they are saying yes you need a knee replacement but as your not aged between 80 -100 you will not be having one .
What you need to do is a lose weight (yes I lost a heap and seem to have gained most back). Please join a gym buy gym equipment tighten up the muscle above the knee .And of course see a private physio regularly( as I said to my wife afterwards the private physio said its a waste of time seeing a physio go figure in fact 2 physios said they wouldnt touch my knee bone on bone)
I asked about the small bone spur and he suddenly looked at the xrays(he supposedly had looked at).Well theres four of them they cant be helping .
But it all goes back to your last visit in 06 and started on about physio again. And then I had to make an appointment to see a surgeon re my third ortho surgery.
So in September I will find out when I have the next op.
And I am supposedly have to get my vitamin d levels checked no idea why .and I did tell him my calcium tablets contained vitamin d.
