Rnd 6 Rising Star Nominee - Cohen Thiele (North)

From the SANFL web site...

ROUND 6 COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH NOMINATION

Image

Cohen Thiele from North Adelaide Football Club has been named the Round 7 Coca-Cola Star Search nominee.

It was Thiele’s first League match of the season, having only ever played one other match at this level.

Playing wing/midfield, the 20 year old tallied 14 kicks, 10 handballs and nine marks during North’s clash against the Eagles last Sunday.

I was really impressed by Thiele on Sunday, was able to find plenty of space on the outer wing, uses the ball well and for a young kid with a slender physique, he isn't afraid to put his body on the line. Well done Cohen, a well deserved nominee.

It was his first league game for the season if you don't count the other 2 he's played. Also it appears the SANFL have looked into the future to be announcing round 7's nomineee already

Congratulations Cohen Thiele.

I don't know what the criteria is for being a rising star BUT anyone forget about Jack Junipers near match winning debut against the top of the table, undefeated, team of the decade dogs.

Using you post to disguise the fact your having another crack at North?

Surprised you haven't had a crack about his poor disposal / skills so you can lump him in with our other average midfielders in out side e.g. Allan and Archard?

no not at all like i said congratulations to him. I didn't comment any further on him because to be honest i haven't seen to much of him apart from that he plays on the wing.

I don't think i would be the only to find it strange Juniper did not win this rounds award unless he doesn't fit the criteria. Like i said 5 goals against the top side is a massive effort especially on debut.

And yes i do think Allen and Archard are average compared to Callinan, Gowans x2 (2000-2007), O'Sullivan, J.Clayton, Backwell who can rack up 30 possesions plus have an impact on the scoreboard by kicking 3-4 goals.

I'm pretty sure to be eligable for the Coca Cola Star Search nominee you have to be 20 years or under...

I think this is the reason Jack Juniper was not selected as he is 22 or 23 I think...

At least spell his name correctly if you are going to bag him!

If you think he is average compared to the others then how would explain his MM and the fact he was runner up last year in his first 2 years in the SANFL? Plus his possessions per game were in the top 2 in the league both years. If North had been a finalist last year (eg winning more minor round games 1 or 2 at best) he would have gone back to back most likely!

I think you will find he averages way more possesions a game than Callinan although Callinan is used mainly as a fwd and is brilliant at that role so he would kick more goals a game so that is a bit of a flawed comparison.

As for Backwell - how many goals per game does he average - I bet it wouldn't be 3-4 as you allege?

Your anti - Allan bias is pathetic in reality and your arguements as to why are (to coin your phrase) "average" at best.

I do rate Allan as a player like i have said over and over he is a brilliant ball winner but i don't think he has as much influence on games as many other midfielders in the competition.

As for the Magarey Medal, i don't believe the best player always wins these types of awards, far from it infact take for example the Brownlow Medal (which is based on the same point system). If you had to pick a team out of every player in the AFL would Adam Cooney be your first picked !!!!. I will even say that the year Paul Thomas won the magarey i don't think he was the best player in the SANFL.

I am yet to see Allan hurt Centrals with his possesions and i know as fact that Roy Laird has never felt the need to tag Allan, he has always been more interested in players who can hurt the opposition like Chris Ladhams or when Ben Hart went onto the wing in the Grand Final straight away he had Nathan Grima playing a hard tag on him.

Is that really unreasonable.

from the SANFL website

To be eligible for the award, nominees are required to meet the following criteria:

players must have played no more than eight State League games at the start of the 2009 season
players must be aged 21 or under at January 1, 2009
AFL rookies are eligible for the award unless promoted to the senior list of their AFL club
Players who are suspended by the tribunal during the 2009 season are ineligible to win the award
Following each round of the home and away season, each competing club nominates one eligible player from their team.
A review panel then selects one player as the Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.

Cheers for that Heater...

So Jack Juniper didn't qualify for nomination based on the age requirements like I suggested...

More importantly an ex-west adelaide junior Cohen Thiele is. Good player a shame he gave up on juniors before he went back to the riverland to play some senior footy and then joining north a year later.

Sorry coverking Thiele never played one game for West Adelaide, not even Under 17's, was in their zone, but not required until North showed interest. Well done to Cohen on his nomination.

I know for a fact that he was involved at West Adelaide. We did a pre season together, he played in trial games at both under 17 and under 19 level. One of those trials is when he played for the U/19s against the Riverland senior side in the preseason a couple years back. He was a required player at Westies at junior level. He was just more concerned about finishing school, and playing footy at home with his mates.

So sorry demons
