Aceman I will see you at the Zoo in the Primate section I can't believe how far out you are I will say this again "the money Brad Vassal and Ben Gunning were offered to play country compared to Modbury was embarassing" They stuck with Modbury and won a GF

Now one is playing for the SANFL getting $50/ game (estimate) and the other has gone back to Maitland If the money was as good as you speculate why are they not still there?

Modbury is not flush with cash, so if you want to see why they are doing so well go there on a Saturday and see a group of blokes who have played juniors together and now do battle together in DIv 1

This is called culture and I am not sure that you can buy that

No bigheads just good honest blokes having a crack for the brown and gold

Same goes for the reserves

Congratulations on your response, it took you a while but you did it well, and you also know how to spell "primate", that's very good too!
A lot of players get offered big money to go to the country, they are not Robinson Crusoe in that area but if they played with you as you say for very little. all power to them and they should be congratulated. I would be the first to shake their hand because that has become a thing of the past in footy, unfortunately.

It was a fairly impressive post Inflight. . . Maybe Vassal & Jolly are one of the exceptions to the rule that im sure every club has a few of.

I know if Modbury had the extra cash they would be more than happy to pass it on to there entire squad and not just individuals. Keeps everyone happy in the end.

Well off money and onto footy, Some very big games this week. Its almost as hard to pick Div 1 at the moment as it is AFL.

SANFL blokes get a lot more than $50 even to play ressies the least a club (Westies) pays is $80 and centrals pay their ressies players $150. Most blokes are on about 200 a league game too.

Are you sure. Without naming any clubs, I've heard $60 to $100 is around the mark, I'd back Inflight's information, he is a very learned man.

its spot on, i was quite heavily involved with the SANFL until the end of last season, Centrals reserves are very very well paid. No one pays under 80 thats for sure for ressies.

I was talking to a high placed Centrals man on Saturday about the Waterhouse money saga
and he was blown away at that type of money in amateur footy said Maybe on 5 to 8 players
in the Sanfl would get that type of money
Centrals players on approx $150 - $200 league but it does very alot
and the Reserves approx $50 - $100 per game

Agreed Sass.... the div 1 results on the weekend shows that on the day anyone of the top 5 can beat eachother and convincingly. It also may have shown that the some of the supposed big 5 arnt as strong as first thought?

Only time will tell.... IMO teams 6 & 7 will compete with the top 5 but doubt they will jag more than maybe 1 or 2 wins against them over the season

with the economic crisis probably getting alot worse than better, will the amatuer league clubs be able to pay the amounts they are/have? what will happen to the players who ask these amounts and what will happen to their inflated egos?

Sanfl clubs would have to pay more then $50-100 for ressies, and $200 for league
a bloke that can play that calibre of footy couldeasily get that or more playing in the city or more in the country and they would have to only train 2 times a week!!

If you arent looking to play AFL or you have a career there really is less and less incentive to play SANFL. This is improving the quality of the Amateur league!

Bingo! First year reserves players at NAFC get $75 less tax per game so around $50 nett

Why would anyone, if there is any doubt about playing REGULAR SANFL footy, would you want to train 3,4 or 5 times a week and some extra morning stints for $75.00 less tax per game?
You do not need to be Einstein to work out why guys are leaving the SANFL and how players are now getting league and reserves games, that a few years back wouldn't even make a clubs top 40 players.

Sorry mate, Centrals reserves players don't get more than $100 a game, at least not the local ones anyway. I had a mate at North as well who got $80 for a ressies game, and didn't even get paid for the first 4 weeks as his match payments were to cover his buying of the club suit to wear to the game. No incentive at all to play Reserves footy unless you're young and going to play league, or just having a lot of pride to continue playing the level for peanuts.

play for pride and cause they have peanuts for a brain!!
I was with a mate who used to play league
he said that they had spoken to someone and were keen for him to go back out
he has no intention he said
reasons being there is no club atmosphere round the place and that you play with a bunch of blokes that think they are the best player ever. just not a good atmosphere!!
