I wouldn't take him too seriously - I dont, and I've copped my fair share and laugh.

I have to say, he does cop it back, especially from me.

It's not as if he is a serious, investigative journalist intending to hurt someone. It's all tongue in cheek.

Keep it in the context that it should be.

As for this week..........

His literary skills aren't that good either, and I seem to recall one or two there/their/they're mistakes in last week's column

The "person claiming to be an umpire" never suggested that anyone could read a rulebook and umpire. He is quite right in what he has said. How many current players have actually read a rulebook? I didn't until I had to umpire, and I would still seek out the book after every game to see if I was right in a decision.

How many people on here knew about the rule regarding the TTG v Modbury game? I didn't until after the PAOC V CBCOC game at Norwood Oval nearly ended because of the lights. It looked like everyone on here thought it was a draw.

I remember being abused because I gave a free kick to a side because a runner was in the 50m arc during a kick off. Anyone know that rule? Where is the free kick taken from, and who takes the free kick?

When a player has taken a mark, or given a free, goes back, and is out of bounds; he goes off his line........... Play On is called, but he is out of bounds? Is it play on or out of bounds? Can an umpire call Play On if he's out of bounds?

That's what the "person claiming to be an umpire" is talking about. I had to contend with the above scenarios in my first 3 games and I played over 250 games

As for the two columns...........

Had a bit of a read through the budget today.
It needs a proof reader.
The intro page alone has plenty of errors.
As for the clubs cracking the pips because of perceived bias of some of the writers and wanting to install their own writers, what a joke.

Shrek's piece on the umpire took the comments totally out of context too btw.

However, I enjoyed the previews of most of the grades.

I think your refering to the Footy Budget as opposed to the SAAFL publication that comes out on Tuesdays and Fridays. Two different beasts.

You're right. Sorry, I was just following the direction that this topic had taken, which seemed to be about the Budget now.

I haven't seen them this year, but from what I am hearing from the opposition, they need to hold for 4 quarters.

Big question - Will a Pickney line up tomorrow? They have plenty of good small - medium runners but the Pinkneys certainly add to the side

Am enjoying the content of the new publication, although it doesn't have the detail that the Footy Budget has for it's match review/previews, the SAAFL publication has some top quality articles and a great layout. And our club is extremely stoked with the coverage they gave us in Friday's edition.

I did have to laugh at this from Friday's front page though:

It's not easy at the college clubs because they don't pay players...

Was great to see the Hawks get a talk up ;) although it was a tad over the top. Yes the lads played great footy on saturday but the opponant was average and the reference to geelong was

i think this publication does need a budget style overview af all the rounds games etc. with maybe a feature like they did on Modbury v Goodies

They lost the first 3 of 2005 but they did win the flag from 5th and won the next year from 4th so there home and away wasn't outstanding.

I think so far, for the first year, the SAAFL Footy News has been very good. Agree there is room for improvement such as more information on match preview/reviews (for all divisions) but give it time and hopefully this will happen. The layout is well done and the photos make it a much better presentation.

I think thats because i gave your club a big enough wrap on the Div1 forum, i mean how much more do you like reading about yourselves & how good you are, take it from me mavrick i think you & your club all believed " TO MUCH " in what you read about yourselves last year & then it all went pear shape at the most important time of the year.
