Yeah i agree. I'd like to think that United has learnt a lesson from the whole CCC recruitment but who knows. I personelly think clubs are better off getting players in the age bracket of 21 - 25. Guys that didn't quite make SANFL. These guys (if quality people) hopefully become good mates with the local 21 - 25yo players & then you may end up getting 5+ years service out of them eg in our case Opitz Schubert Mansfield etc. The problem with recruiting ex AFL players is that they have already played at the highest level & therefore are not likely to be as committed at country level. Usually won't train 2 nights a week, feel they don't have much to prove. I'm pretty sure CCC has retired.

I agree also, Unless the ex AFL player has originated from your club, they will continue to sl*t around aimlessly.Troy Bond did it to us. Offered big coin, trained once and only ended up playing 3 games. Wasnt worth it at all.

Blokes like that are certain kind of people. Different to blokes to us i guess. Not that i'm judging them, if they can make money like that & clubs are willing to pay it, good luck to them but i just couldn't imagine playing footy anywhere else than my home club & with my best mates. But on the otherside is the fact that guys like a waterhouse or a pickett can enhance the profile & standard of your league & its always good to be able to say that you played against them.

Like I said I think if my club was in a situation where they could afford the calibre of CCC I would be all for it, but are the flow on benefits REALLy there??

Would of thought CCC was paid through sponsorship money (maybe an direct weekly payment from a sponsor), and he leaves you in the lurch come GF. My point is he was paid all year this way and uses that money to travel. Very dissapointing from an respectable player and person. Yes we've been over it and yes it was disappointing but we all move on and we are in a pretty good position now and beleive we will again be contenders this year even after a slip up last weekend.

I beleive this to be correct Fester. Pretty sure this is the reason we got him to play for us and despite what you may think I am of the understanding that he was not paid very much at all by the club.

Saw on another thread that Waterhouse and Wanganeen might be playing for Mannum. I wonder if we should clear Wangas!

i may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Che said that it was a business trip that he and his business partner Pauly had planned long before he had signed with United, so in that case the business would have covered it and he'd have claimed it on tax, nothing to do with United or the coach at the time!
