Virginia runners hurt us. Johnstone about 35 possesions. M.Young played his usual game but had the support from others. They should go good this year.

How did Latimer go for the Bombers??

As good as the other 14 not named in the best.

Pretty quiet but with limited chances. Conditions did not really suit his game.

40 scoring shots yes. Did it rain on saturday?

We were a disgrace for an entire half. Second half was much better.

IMO Virginia are going to surprise you teams at the top. Their ball movement from the centre to the forward line, in horrid conditions, was really really really good at times. They are twice the team they were last year and still have Musolino, Papanotis and possibly others to come back. But time will tell i guess.

Who do they play next week?

Dunno, Mallala has the bye this week and play Virginia the week after.
Good to see Virginia back as a force to make the competition interesting again. How do you rate HB FGH more importantly as that would prob give us all a better idea as to how good the Rams will be this year. Do you expect to beat them this year??

We are and will be much better than last year I can assure you of that.

It is a big call to say I expect to beat them after how good they looked on saturday SD.

Hopefully we can stop these slow starts ASAP as they cost us beating many sides last year and it certainly did not help on saturday.

The big units Young and Johnstone were quite a handfull in those boggy in close conditions. They also have quite a potent forward line now with Gerradis, Schutt, Tsimkilis and Musolino to come in. Rigney and Bascome across the HB line and Seccafien (who always carves us up) on the wing. They are a pretty good side.

Hopefully they come out and smash whoever they play next week and give you lot a hell of a surprise and I will feel a little better :?

Hopefully we can beat Balak next week at home again like last year.

United B-grade lacked a couple of key players to compete with an experienced Mallala side. A couple of retired A-graders who promise to come out but haven't would make a big difference......Can you think of anyone Mr Gribbles? ;)

As well as missing T-Mac and sticka thru injury I presume. Good to see Sam Irish respond the criticism dished out to him last week and got himself in the best vs United. Defies a few theories does big Sav, great to see!

Yeah unfortunately T-Mac had injured his knee, denying the crowd the match up they had all come to see!

Couple of big offers rumoured to have been made to Clive Waterhouse by other clubs: $1200 Horsham, Vic and $1000 Mannum. Only rumours but geez imagine playing country footy for that sort of money, you would have to feel bad about putting your hand out at the end of each game surely

Isn't Byron transferring from the Blues to Koonibba this year? :? Doubt they would be able to even afford $50.

Blokes like that are certain kind of people. Different to blokes to us i guess. Not that i'm judging them, if they can make money like that & clubs are willing to pay it, good luck to them but i just couldn't imagine playing footy anywhere else than my home club & with my best mates. But on the otherside is the fact that guys like a waterhouse or a pickett can enhance the profile & standard of your league & its always good to be able to say that you played against them.

I still dont think that that alone is enough to justify it Unit. Be honest here and ask what a player with the profile of Che C-C added to our competition and how has it improved your club and/or league. Dont get me wrong, Im not having a crack at UNited, I certainly think it was worth a punt by United giving you were so close to a flag in both years and I would have thought a player of his calibre would get you over the line too, but in hindsight would you do it again. Like I said I think if my club was in a situation where they could afford the calibre of CCC I would be all for it, but are the flow on benefits REALLy there?? Probably not unless you the team wins a flag! I dont know!
In my opinion if Clive or someone like a Fiegert or Phil Smith ended up in our league and was getting massive money, I dont think the publicity the league and teh club will get is positive at all, it almost reflects negatively on the league. I look at the Barossa and dont really see that as Country Footy anymore given the cash that is bandied around some clubs, its crazy stuff. Good luck to big Clive, $20,000 per year would be a handy bonus to anyones annual salary!
PS Unit where is Che playing this year mate?

Yeah i agree. I'd like to think that United has learnt a lesson from the whole CCC recruitment but who knows. I personelly think clubs are better off getting players in the age bracket of 21 - 25. Guys that didn't quite make SANFL. These guys (if quality people) hopefully become good mates with the local 21 - 25yo players & then you may end up getting 5+ years service out of them eg in our case Opitz Schubert Mansfield etc. The problem with recruiting ex AFL players is that they have already played at the highest level & therefore are not likely to be as committed at country level. Usually won't train 2 nights a week, feel they don't have much to prove. I'm pretty sure CCC has retired.
