MESSAGE FOR ANDY COLLINS

Postby mal » Sun Apr 26, 2009 6:32 pm

Andy you have an underated team who are capable of very good footy in 2009

LET YOUR TEAM PLAY ATTACKING FOOTY

Forget this numbers behind the ball flooding/zoning/clustering style of footy

The last 2 weeks[v GL+ NW] the players have played sensational footy when attacking after being a few goals down.

The team seemingly plays its very best footy when running and attacking

Let them play instinctively WIN DRAW OR LOSE
Cop a belting here and there but let the players learn learn learn and be better better better

Another poster on SAFOOTY last week posted
' If WA play attacking footy they can beat NW next week '

Now its my turn
If WA play attacking footy they can beat EG in 3 weeks time.

Please note 3 weeks becoz.
bye next week
CD at Bonanzaland in 2 weeks time

Mal, with the greatest respect to another football-lover, West play the same way just about every game.

When it's executed skilfully, it looks like attacking football, when it's not, it looks too defensive.

Simple as that.

That winning goal in the last five seconds -- that was a pure example of when their style of play, when executed correctly, comes off. Completely caught Norwood off guard.

You're kidding.

Have a read of my post on the game review thread and decide whether I'm a West supporter with nothing positive to say.

This thread is purely about style of play and I gave my opinion on that.

And before I read yours.

If you're in doubt, read the other 2,000 I've made being positive about Westies.

Redandblack, with the greatest respect to another football-lover, West might play the same way just about every game but not today and they WON.
Ive seen them about 8 times in the last 2 years
Today was the first time I saw WA running thru the lines, taking risks, at times all out attacking
They played football as it should be played instead of players attempting to be over accountable to the opposition
I guess they had no choice being 43 points down, but I reckon they should play like that all game as much as practible.
There will be times when any team needs to zone up in a game, but I reckon the WA boys perhaps overdo it [only my observations in the games Ive seen]

I say load up the forward line and play with flair
MORAN
HARTLETT
DAVENPORT [boy can he play]
WILLITTS
FERGUSON
CUPIDO
and others

There is plenty of talent to play up forward and be a dangerous team

Ive chatted with BAYMAN [GL] and BRIAN[EG]
Both have told me when WA play enterprising footy they look a much better team
After seeing todays game MAL [NW] agrees with them

BAYMAN predicted during the week that if WA played attacking footy they would beat NW
And indeed it happened

Mal, I'm glad you've seen West 8 times in the last 2 years and you've talked to a couple of other opposition supporters.

What would I know in the face of such evidence?

I've only seen nearly every game they've played for decades and seen nearly every training session for 20 years, so how would I know how they play?

Knowing R&B personally i would rather listen to him and his knowledge about about West Adelaide than someone who has nothing to do with the club and as for "no mercy" well i would say it should be "no idea".R&B is at all training nights and games,he takes a hell of a lot of interest around the club not like some who just sit behind a computer and criticize, and more than likely does not even help out their club in any way at all.

r&b, what does going to training etc (which i commend people doing & if i had the time i would as well) have to do with this ?

the fact is west are playing a lot more attacking football & are reaping the rewards, all you have to do is go back 1 week glenelg up early west attacked kicked 10 of the next 11 or whatever it was then during the 3rd term when glenelg lifted in intensity instead of trying to kick another goal they (west) tried to save the game & from then on glenelg clawed its way back into the game & when we hit the front the first time in the last quarter what happened ? 2 long kicks FORWARD & then GOAL & put west back in front & then for the next few minutes again west tried to save the game & finally glenelg got a goal & regardless of whether west held on or not the first thing that happens if you are trying to save a game is the opposition is the only team that can score

r&b, if west play with that flair win, lose or draw everyweek & don't go into their shells they'll be a good side sooner rather than later

for the record i think mal & i are very good judges of football i know he averages winning more than me per year & i average winning just over $4,500
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

You're entitled to your opinion, Mal.

I don't bet on the footy, so my winnings are nil, but I'll back my footy knowledge as being equal to yours and Baymans.

I think Bayman would arc up a bit if I claimed that I knew more about the Bays game than him because I see them 4 times a year.

actually i wouldn't because you'd see an opponents game plan without rose colored glasses

also r&b just a one word answer has west style of football different to last year ?
