Bit of a story about the signing of Stuart Clark with Kent

Stuart Clark has agreed to join Kent on a six-week deal, a stint in which he hopes to demonstrate his enduring class as a fast bowler, and revive his prospects of leading Australia's attack in the forthcoming Ashes in July

In addition to Clark, two other members of Australia's likely Ashes touring party have signed county deals for the start of the English summer, with Marcus North heading for Hampshire and Phillip Hughes linking with Middlesex. But whereas North and Hughes have played just four Tests between them and penned county deals prior to earning selection for Australia, Clark is a seasoned veteran seeking match practice in his comeback from elbow surgery. That, ECB chiefs insist, should deter Kent - or any other county - from signing him in an Ashes year.

Stuart Clark has been stunned by the irascible response to his signing with Kent, and believes the comments of several senior ECB officials have been "over the top". The veteran fast bowler faxed his Cricket Australia medical clearance to the county on Thursday - the last of the formalities in finalising a short-term contract - and plans to arrive in Canterbury in mid-April to begin his playing stint.

Kent's signing of Clark has been strongly criticised by Geoff Miller, the national selector, and Hugh Morris, the managing director of England cricket, both of whom have accused the county of providing succour to a key member of the Australian squad in an Ashes year. Clark, though, believes too much has been made of his temporary move to Canterbury, which he hopes will assist him in his comeback from elbow surgery.

its a Court ruling in favour of Maros Kolpak a Slovakian Handball player (you know the game we all get really interested in every 4 years) who won a case that no resident of a European Union member country be prevented from working in another member country. Where South Africa comes into the frame is that the are a member of the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific countries) which have and associate agreement with the European Union. This mainly is applied to competitions that have restrictions on the number of foreign players each team can have.


So in short its a back door entry to county cricket for African and West Indian players

Ryan Harris, the Queensland allrounder, will be able to send reminders to the Australian selectors over the next month after joining Surrey for three County Championship matches. Harris made his ODI debut in January but did not add to the appearance and missed the latter stages of the home season with a foot injury.
