Lawrence Leung's Choose Your Own Adventure

Postby Magpiespower » Thu Mar 26, 2009 6:38 am

Anybody catch this?

Found Leung stiff, wooden, and like so many Australian comics, smug and self-conscious.

Quickly tired of his one-note wide-eyed, innocent, nice guy shtick. A better actor might have pulled it off. Then again, probably not - pretty thin material.

Felt like an unfunny in-joke. Hilarious telling your mates over a beer at the pub. But a half-hour of television?

Forgettable.

I liked it. I think it was his awkwardness that made it accessible because inside most of us is someone who wishes they'd done certain things and who have insecurities about dealing with others.
Am a bit biased though, have had involvement with the bloke in the past and he genuinely is a nice guy. No acting required.

I'm with Mappa. Turned it off halfway through. Was a great premise, but came across as badly staged, all the while trying to maintain a facade of spontanaeity.

I tuned into this for the first time last night and found it quite entertaining. Although, I haven't seen a minute of any of the previous episodes, but judging on this week's effort, I'll probably have a look again next week.

I watched the show for the first time last night. Was up and down but I found the good bits hilarious. 'Lube the Cube' was a great line and having random guest spots from Kerry O'Brien and David and Margaret from the movie show was a great pop culture nod.
Also, his little Rubik's Cube pouch just made me laugh.

Watched it again last night.

Hope his next adventure involves capital punishment.

Something like 'Can Lawrence survive the electric chair?'

Not quite sure who's more painful - Lawrence Leung or Russell Brand?

He really is a one trick pony with the Rubik's Cube thing...

Well, I'm one-out then as I enjoyed it again last night. Tracking down the guy who starred in Electric Boogaloo and trying to learn how to Breakdance just made me laugh. I guess it must be that his era just about exactly matches mine, and he remembers stuff I've forgotten, and takes the pi55 out of it.

My wife was watching this last night and I caught the last 15-20 minutes.
Badly directed, badly acted and if they had a writer that person might seriously consider a new career. This was rubbish. I can't believe the ABC put it to air. Has the ABC given up on comedy entirely and now concentrating on "light entertainment"???
