Premeirship livewire Westbrook, dangerous & has pace & goal sense, a welcome return to the club this year

Ginever & Wallace on teleconference calls for most of this evening. Resign Now Ginever, although you are a supercoach with no commitment and yet to be given a decent opportunity.
I say sign him up for a three year deal.....quick

All in all a usual day at the stinking neutral ground that is alberton.

PS We all missed Clive Sh!thouse, the great claim to fame of being 3rd in fremantle's best & fairest one year, great recruit, beneath this team man to play reserves it seems.

GO YOU EAGS!!!

Pity you cant beat Port in something like an SANFL Grand Final, I recall being there in 1994, what happened on that occassion to the great amalgamated club? :D The coach of Port may not have won today, yet his efforts as Captain on that occassion certainley suggests that you have a long long way to go to even remotley even up the score! ;)

1994 SANFL (South Australia National Football League) Grand Final saw the Port Adelaide Magpies defeat the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles by 37 points after being 35 points behind in the first quarter. The match was played on October 2, 1994 at Football Park in front of a crowd of 40,598[1].

Despite Port Adelaide's recent success, having won 4 premierships in the 6 years leading up to 1994, the Eagles were seen as the superior team coming in to the Grand Final. Port had lost several key players in recent years to the AFL and retirement, and the Eagles had thrashed Port just 2 weeks earlier in the 2nd Semi Final by 73 points.
Betting before the Grand Final saw Woodville-West Torrens as clear favourites with 1/3 odds and Port at 25/10 [1]. Port's odds could have been even higher if not for their outstanding record in Grand Finals, and their reputation for beating better teams.
When the Eagles led by 35 points in the first quarter, the game seemed headed toward an inevitable Eagles victory. Port then staged a miraculous 72-point turnaround
.

You seem rather interested in what the Eagles have or haven't done, are you a closet fan? You were toying with the idea about merging last year, so maybe you are.

None are, and I don't think even Cica was playing Under 17s in 1994. He might have started in 1995 I think.

I know. :) An interview with him in the Budget I can recall him saying he was in the 17s in 1996; but the part I can't recall is that he may have played a couple the year before.

I thought it was a typical hard game yesterday against Port.

Improved from last years games against Port around the packs. Always a good sign when we are forcing ballup after ballup when loosing the knock.

I love the look of Miles in the Ruck and then up forward, really gives the team a different dimension around the ball. A bit like a Darryl Poole , not afraid to get down and dirty.

Backline dominated and has a really good understanding of each overs role , gelling well.

Jeremy Clayton - best on ground , silky skills and just has the footy smarts. Only knock is his discipline however you can forgive him for that when he delivers so much in over areas.

I avoid the snags at games and if you want to pay $3 let alone $6 for left over meat minced and seasoned then I pity your stomach.

More importantly the beer was cold and reasonably priced.

Always a good sign to beat port at Alberton no matter how bad they are traveling.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

cold yes, but $5-50 a can seemed steep to me? How much was it on the outer wing. The comedic genius that served me in the grandstand shed said $67 for a round of four beers.
At least an alternative to west end draught was on offer.

After comparing Sunday's game to the debacles at Alberton last year, the eagles have improved and PAM has gone backwards. Before the game, I thought that PAM's side was pretty thin. As usual, the PAM folk tried to use the history, culture and tradition, of past eras to get them over the line but they don't have the cattle to do it any more. PAM has been left behind in my opinion by this outmoded reliance on past deeds (good as they are). Clubs don't fear going to Alberton any more ( in fact, talking to a few Eagles players, they love going there as we usually win (past 5 years especially)) and the tradition bit must be diluted with such a turn over of players and non PAM people now playing. The Eagles have a soild foundation to build from and if they can keep their best 21 on the park, will do some damage this year.

As spelly said, the Magpies threw the kitchen sink at us and we were able to hold our ground, and then better them in all aspects. I thought McGregor was comfortably our best player. Controlled the half back line. The rest was an even team performance which is great to see. Promising signs early in the season. Good to see the reserves continue to do well as well.

Only downer to the day was Salter's injury. Hopefully it is not too serious.

First thought was Salter had a head injury the reckless way the feral ran into attack him .Praise to the eagles staff that went out very quickly with the stretcher .It did appear that the ump wasn't going to stop play at one stage.

I thought it was a head injury too. And the only way to answer the stat question is probably to ask you the same question. ;)

Micky I had a great vantage point of the Salter injury - nothing wreckless or calous about the colision just some good old hard body contact - definately a knee Injuy (strained) however not sure as to how long he might be out for.

Wedgetail - very good comments re Sundays game. I imagine Port will have a number of players to return to the side as some of the lads playing were not of Port Adelaides 'creed'. I expect that Port may see a bit of Johncock in the near future as he looks lost in the AFL. Having a chat with a senior Port official this week, he was amazed that Rugolo could not make Ports team and that Waterhouse was the scapegoat for the first 3 losses. He was concerned that the continual punishing of the team on the track for losing is almost at the point of working against them...they need a win and they dont have a easy game for at least 2 more weeks.
