Happy to win to stay in touch with fop half, esp at Alberton when the Maggies had their backs to the wall.

Three out of four reasonable performances to start the season when I thought we might have a similar year to last year.

FOUR NIL FOUR NIL FOUR NIL FOUR NIL FOUR NIL FOUR NIL (TO THE TUNE OF A SOCCER SONG).
Was not a great game to watch. Eagles had a poor start again to a game this week .but pegged the magpies back and got the lead and I dont think the eagles surrendered it .
Bad aspect Salter off with a poss knee injury.
Will write more latter.

I'm very pleased with the way we played today, because I know Port were going to throw the kitchen sink at us coming into the match 0-3. We matched and mainly bettered Ports' attack on the ball, and while not always, we used the ball well. Our downfall at times was overuse of the handball, but Port made more glaring errors such as spoiling their own marks and dropping uncontested marks.

I thought Cody Hicks played a good game today, along with McGregor down back and Westbrook up forward. Jacky was another, he is getting better each week. I didn't see Cicolella much today, but he bobbed up in the last to kick an important goal. After the second quarter, we were able to maintain at least a two goal break and had the answers when Port challenged, which is nice to see us not being overrun.

The quarter scores were:
Eagles 3.3 9.4 10.10 15.13 (103)
Port 4.0 5.6 7.9 10.11 (71)

The Reserves continue to put pressure on the League players, winning 21.15 to 10.9.

Don't forget the one hander by Miles. ;)

Yes, what miffed me was when Hier came in to help out a teammate on the wing, immediately a free was given to Port. Then another dust up resulted in a free to Port, which goes to show that the retaliator usually cops it.

Todays match means that it's the first time ever that Port have started a season by losing the first four matches.

It's the first time in 109 years that Port have had three consecutive weeks at the bottom of the ladder, and it will be 4 next week due to the bye. In 1900, Port were last for the last five weeks of the season.

It's only the 11 time that Port has lost five consecutive matches since 1897:

7 - Rd 4 2002 to Rd 10 2002
6 - Rd 12 1900 to 2nd Section Match 1900
6 - Rd 13 1949 to Rd 1 1950
6 - Rd 16 2002 to Rd 22 2002
5 - Rd 3 1923 to Rd 7 1923
5 - 2SF 1940 to Rd 3 1941
5 - Rd 14 1948 to Rd 1 1949
5 - Rd 19 1973 to Rd 1 1974
5 - 2SF 1974 to Rd 3 1975
5 - Rd 11 1985 to Rd 15 1985

No blinkin' kidding. Three bucks for a single overcooked snag in a single slice of bread. Would get twice that for the same price at the Bay, and better quality to boot. Seems like the Alberton ground management has gotten used to ripping off the gullible AFL supporters. Little wonder both Port clubs have distinct off-field issues.

An excellent win today. It was a hard fought contest and it was really only late in the game that the Eagles sealed the victory. As spelly said, the Magpies threw the kitchen sink at us and we were able to hold our ground, and then better them in all aspects. I thought McGregor was comfortably our best player. Controlled the half back line. The rest was an even team performance which is great to see. Promising signs early in the season. Good to see the reserves continue to do well as well.

Only downer to the day was Salter's injury. Hopefully it is not too serious.

First thought was Salter had a head injury the reckless way the feral ran into attack him .Praise to the eagles staff that went out very quickly with the stretcher .It did appear that the ump wasn't going to stop play at one stage.

Good on him though, he's got the Ressies playing good footy and keeping the heat on the League players.
