Rd 4 Port V Eagles @ Alberton Oval

Postby MightyEagles » Tue Apr 14, 2009 11:08 am

The battle of the birds is played at Alberton on Sunday with the 16s/18s played on Saturday at Woodville.

I think that it'll be a close game.

I am tipping Port for this one, They have never lost four games in a row to open a season and I dont think it will be changed this week! :?

I am interested to see who if any get called up by their AFL teams .
Clayton normally a very big headache and does a lot of damage against the Eagles .Hargraves gone so he wont kick 10 against us again .
Be interesting to see the likes of Cheep,Allmond and co take on the magpies.
Will the eagles skipper play on ball down back up forward ?

Well, last season, we come of a high against Central at Woodville, only to go to Alberton and perform below par.
Then come Round 23 after a good win against Norwood at Woodville, we lose again.
Is the same mistake going to happen again, particularly when Ports worst start to the season is 3 losses? (1920, 1941, 1975 and now 2009) Guess who Port opened their account against after two losses last year?

If the Eagles loose this week, will the win against Glenelg be seen as the old term "wasted".

And how good is that Allmond lad, what a bonus it is when a young lad steps up like he has early on in the season. I think the Magpies will go back to the old style and try to rough the young lad up physically from the very first bounce. Wouldn't be surprised to see a Lokan, DePasquele or one of the other bigger bodies go straight up to him. Watch this space.

The word from Alberton is that Ginever thinks the Eags are soft under intense body pressure. This was proven to be correct last year when PAM basically beat us the same way each time we played them. I will be livid if we don't stand up this time and believe if we can't beat PAM on Sunday and make a statement about our ability to handle body pressure, we won't be any good in the finals if we should make them. Importantly, it is a chance to put one of our competitors for the 5 further out of the race. Can't wait for the game as I feel we will stand up this time.

Yes, because we know what is capable of the team (last week) but the consistency needs to be there. What's the point in beating the top side one week when you can't beat the last side the next week?

BUT lets not forget Port will be going all out to win .We always(or in recent years) have fallen at the Port Adelaide Hurdle .There is always something happening to Port Adelaide when we have to play at Alberton .I just hope this week Ron has the boys ready to go from the first bounce and to keep going for 4 quarters.
And just for the record I think our club fell at the Port Adelaide hurdle last round last year by not playing the youth that got the club back into the hunt for the five .Plus playing one player who has gone to the roosters.
I know the second thing wont be repeated I hope Ron and the selectors don't fall for that same mistake again. And the players have faith in themselves .Plus all of us fans members supporters get there in numbers and voice .

Although between 1998 and 2007 we became the first club to win 7 out of 11 matches at Alberton (besides Port), it was last year that put an end to the good run there.

But when it comes to winning streaks against Port, we have only had one run of three wins (2SF 1993 to Rd 15 1994); plus 6 lots of two wins.

Would be nice to add to the 7 in a row record that williams had, with a four in a row opening to the season.

Watched last years two games from the alberton bowls club with no success so will change the locale this week.

Is the game sat or sunday? The paper last weekend had our match on sunday at Adelaide oval, whilst the location is incorrect, is the day correct?

This time you'd better make sure Timmy doesn't have a mobile phone on him before you start taunting him ;)

For the record, the projectile was not a mobile phone. It was a large wall phone that became a mobile phone when it was thrown at an innocent person who still has ringing in his ears.
