Talk on the national game

Rangas

Postby brod » Mon Apr 13, 2009 11:04 am

Is is just me or is there anyone else who has a sly smile when Melbourne wear their away jumper (main red) and have Bate and Cheaney playing??

This got me thinking who are the "RANGAs" of the modern era and who is the best?

My favourite I think will always be

Josh Thurgood (Red dreadlocks)

As a ranga myself I try to support all of them whenever I'm watching, I know how rough of a childhood they probably had.

Lingy is the best and the unofficial ranga leader of the country, Gary Moorcroft took the best ranga mark of all time, Thurgood was terrible, Cheney is the only recent one with a mullet, Bate goes alright, Peter Walsh was pretty reliable, Sam Jacobs is flying the flag for ranga ruckmen, Jackson at Richmond is the worst of the lot, and Roughead is being disloyal and trying to change his colour (for shame). Cooney was really red in his Westies days as well.

Old Tim McGrath from Geelong was real quality too.

The red gurnsey really didn't suit Bate and Cheney at all.

The Geelong bloodnut hall of fame

Image

Barry Stoneham. Fair dinkum this bloke could have been anything if not for a series of really serious leg injuries. They rushed him back for a Grand Final just like we did to Matty Egan.

Neville Bruns. Geelong pest who was famously clocked by Leigh Matthews back in 1985. Older Geelong fans still haven't forgiven Lethal for that one.

Timmy McGrath. A solid defender who held his own against King Carey....in one on one contests, not in a Ben Rutten style gang up.

And of course....

Image

Cameron Ling. The Pink Pig himself. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. Go Lingy!

regards,

REB

This thread is hilarious, Do you think that next year there should be a Rangas vs Indiginous? not a bad centre line up with Jacobs, Cooney and Ling.

It'd have to be a twilight match.
If it was played during the day, the rangas would burn to a crisp.
If it was played at night, you'd hardly be able to see the indigenous players.
