Good Friday Football

Postby Mr66 » Fri Apr 10, 2009 10:42 pm

I see that there was a Super 14 game and an NRL match as well tonight.
What's the problem with the AFL?
Afraid of going to another place in the afterlife?
Does the AFL think it is the only sporting comp in the world that does the (ahem) right thing?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

I've enjoyed a rare day without work and/or football.

Loved it, and I worry about people who say they are bored because there is no football :)

Rest assured that when the AFL does play footy on Good Friday the SANFL will still be another 10 years behind that.
Some people say its nice to have a day without footy, FFS there's over 300 days a year that don't have footy!
You can goto the movies or art and craft fair and not get sent to hell but enjoying a physicaly healthy pursuit like football is a no no, its why the footy is red in our great game, to represent the devil!

Will happen before too long.

Has happened in US for years and even if it was Melbourne V Collingwood on Good Friday night, there would be 80,000 there.

I think the sooner it is on the better, it would be bonanza crowd wise and ratings on TV.

To the contrary. I think if you can't go one day without needing a game of footy to watch, then you are definitely watching too much. I hardly watch much at all these days because the product isn't good enough, but that's another story.

At Easter, people get footy on a Thursday they don't usually have. They get footy on a Monday they don't usually have, and yet because it's not played on the Friday, they whinge like stuck pigs. Sad ... very sad.

Love footy, watch that many games during the year, and could not disagree more with playing it on Good Friday. I really don't see why, for one day of the year, we can't have one day without it. I love the game dearly, and also think out of respect for the many of us who do hold certain views about the sacred nature of the day, that football should not be played on Good Friday.

Footy was played on Friday in three Victorian leagues - Ballarat, Bendigo and Sunraysia.
I went to the South Mildura v Irymple game.
Pain in the a** for the players but what a great day for the spectators. Really enjoyed getting out there and watching it.

I'm having second thoughts about this. :?
I can imagine a someone yelling at an umpire, "You're crucifying us, you maggot!" ](*,) ;)
