Greatest Crow

Postby JK » Tue Apr 07, 2009 2:34 pm

Apologies if this topic has been done before ... It's something that get's discussed quite a bit on a yearly basis among my mates, so I'd like to try and put some statistic's to it.

I've included in the list certain players that perhaps some might think shouldn't be in the running, and hopefully haven't omitted any name that should be on there.

Wouldn't be interested in readers opinions, and again apologise if it's been done before.

SO .. From the list, which 3 Crows players would you suggest as the best (and you can use your own definition for that) in the clubs history?

Ruccuito,Jarman,McLeod are the three for mine CP.

Bickley and McDermott shouldn't even be on your list, neither should Rutten IMO, but you had to give people options I suppose.

Smart? :?

Yeah there's some there I don't hold in the same opinion mate, but we all see things differently, as judged by my ratings compared to yours.

Smart was a pretty significant player for the Crows, did some big things in quite a few big matches over a long period of time ... Bickley will appeal to some because of his consistency, tenacity and great leadership.

I went with the Roo, D Jarman & Tyson Edwards. The first two because they could literally tear a game apart on their day, and Edwards because he's just rock solid every single week and represents everything you want the AFC to stand for.

D Jarman is the best player to have worn the Crows guernsey IMO

But for "greatest Crow" I've added points for how long the guy was at the club, playing super footy. Otherwise I'd have Wayne Carey no 1!

Even so, D Jarman is still so good (and he played 6 seasons 1996-2001) that he makes my list:

- Ricciuto
- McLeod
- D Jarman

Honorable mentions to Hart, Rehn and Smart

Ricciuto
a bit of daylight
McLeod
a lot of daylight
Jarman just ahead of a group of Crows.

Ricciuto was a reliable player from basically his first few games, a stand out very quickly, a star of the AFL for a decade, and only hit the wall with injuries right at the end. McLeod has churned out 270 high quality games and about 30 dud ones in my view, so a 9-1 split over your career gets my nod.
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

Roo
McLeod
Edwards

The first two are pretty obvious but I'll alway maintain that Tyson Edwards is one of the most under-rated players in the league.

Riccuito
McLeod
Modra

The reasons for the first two are pretty well covered, but I reckon that the last one, while seeming contentious, is justified. The impact he had on that club was massive and to still kick some reasonable tallies in years such as '94 when the delivery was very haphazard at times was a fair achievement.

I actually think D Jarman is the greatest. Quite simply, if it wasn't for him, they wouldn't have 1 premiership.

1997 was his best game, but yes he was very important to both wins.

But if performance in the GFs is the criteria then it would be Andrew McLeod. 2 x Norm Smith Medals.

I think you have to look beyond those 2 games to find the greatest Crow. Just my opinion.
