All credit to the BL blokes. It was men against boys but they played a really brand of football - Team rules have been instilled from very early on & they let their team-mates (even their coach) know about it if they broke team rules in regards to sharing the ball & centre-ing the footy, etc. They are a professional side who used and shared the ball well. Will let you know after rd 2 when we play CLG who i think is going to be in for the biggest year.
In all fairness, we're trying to rebuild the club at Glenunga and had something like 15 new blokes playing in the A's, will take time gel but the re-building phase will take a few years. We just couldn't match it with their big blokes, and with Glenunga being such a small ground it played into the big blokes hands. We have 1 bloke over 6 foot, and had guys who should be playing on flanks or in the middle who had to attempt to hold down key positions.
I think BL will be in for a really good year, as long as injuries don't deplete their big brigade. The game was played in a good spirit too, with most blokes having a chat during the game, a lot of respect for the way they played their footy.
Just out of curiousity, where have the new blokes come from? One of your blokes told me about 8 guys from div 2 or 3, at Eastern Parks, is that right?

Was probably the best standard football match ive seen since we've been in DIV 6. Both sides were very good at times and use the ball well. Unfortunately we just couldnt put CLG away in the 3rd quarter after being up by 4-5 goals and they eventually ran over the top of us.
Would be surprised if CLG don't finish top 2 again this yr.

you have to be kidding me..clg played no where near their best and still ran over the line..not taking credit away from hectorville, they ran hard and applied great pressure all game but clg skill level was well below par compared to their trial games..also they had 18 men left at half time with 3 injuries and so played the second half with no interchange..on another note congrats to brahma, they look the goods after round one, however with heccies next wk it should show where they are at, jimmy loughlan im sorry but it seems u will be predicting a new premier each week after glenungas games

Good ol' Dan. I saw him last winter and he reckoned he was over footy. Last season was supposed to be pretty much his last.
He was playing B grade for Parks then.
What a gun he was when he was younger. My first captain at senior level.
Good to see him still kicking about.

I'd be very surprised if CLG are better than BL, but will know more after rd 2.
BL were ultra impressive, they didn't beat much but very very well-drilled side. Was only rd 1, but they have been on the track gelling together since Nov '08 (apparently) so i'd predict there could be a lot of improvement still Pre-season starting in november is unheard of in div 6 footy isnt it??????

I personally think Lockleys and CLG are the measuring stick of Div 6.

where are all your recruits from browny???
will CLG & lockleys have the height to match up on you guys?? admittedly, your height was emphasised by the size of the tiny oval at Glenunga oval & our lack of height.

Well lets be honest, you didnt really play anyone of note in your trials. Kenilworth will probably finish bottom of DIV 5 and Aldinga will be bottom 2 of SFL. So hence the difference in skill level in Rd1 and that's why i said both sides looked really good in patches as the pressure was applied all day by both sides.

CLG have a few tall guys but not overly big. But they do probably play the best brand of footy i've seen since we've been in DIV 6, have gone up a notch from last year. Move the ball very well out of defence and are very fit. Can they kick 40 goals next week??

Most of them were from Eastern Park, and the others from all other clubs around the place.

I think you'll find Lockleys and CLG will be as tall as BL, if not taller.. IMO.
