Both sides looked good in patches and no real clear winner.

McKenzie played really well and reliable as always. McGregor and Stewart played well. Jacky got lots of the ball but some soft efforts going in to get the ball at times and it will be things like that that stop him getting into the Crows.

I also think Miles was very useful when used in the ruck.

Probably the only passengers I thought were no. 41 (Lane?) and in particular no. 17 (Davoren??)

Treeby needs to be brought back for one of them next week.

When does a draw not feel like one? When your side gets outplayed for most of the day. We scored half of our goals in a total of about 3 minutes - two in one minute in the first and 3 in two minutes in the third. West are a most improved outfit from last year and they are not to be taken lightly. Their chasing and pressure was non stop throughout the day (we were on and off); they had some good passages of play (last year there may have been one or two in a match).

There are plenty of players in the Reserves to push for selection as the scoreline showed there - 20.12 to 6.11.

wwt = bad kicking is bad football, i'm sure west undertand how you feel after last week

mickyj & co, is it true that jarrad had the ball late in the game & could have scored but chipped sideways & got a west player on the chest then the siren went ?

Well, I'm not 100% sure; but he wouldn't have thought the siren would be imminent - it was only in the 26th minute and the other quarters went at least 27.

A disapointing and unacceptable result for both clubs, Eagles fans have every right to expect their side to make a return to finals footy this season and likewise Westies fans have every right to expect to see their side gain some valuable wins and make their way off the bottom of the SANFL ladder, todays result is the opposite of both of those goals for each club and it doesnt suggest that either side has improved if they cant take away the points.

No doubt Andy Collins would be tearing what is left of his hair out at present and who knows what Ron Fuller is going to do, maybe a return to Sunday Morning 5am training might be one way of dealing with it for both sides, :?

Yep Bayman but he was going to the end against the wind .
Pretty sure Jay Cheep snapped the goal that put the Eagles in front all be it for a short period.
7 points in the first quarter how many were rushed against kicked by Eagles.

and Westies forward line had its own problems Zac Heir was out playing willits (most of the day not totally )Kenny Mac was out marking his opponents then went forward and proved a leading forward is an asset .But had to go back we needed two kenny mac's.

17 is Rowntree Mr fuller
Will have to disagree re Lane .

And the seconds play a different game plan to the league .For some reason when they play well under Jeffries it reminds me of a winning Roosters game style.

I am wondering who could come up Fairclough did little until the last quarter.Westbrook didnt look right Symonds knee/leg was heavily strapped.
Schultze did some good and bad things
staple was great
Dawson was good best game I have seen from him
redden I'm not sure about
Graham (is he a son of ) looked good
Daveron looked good

I am editing this my apologies to Treeby who had a very good game .

Perhaps a little balance from a West point of view.

Certainly a continuation of recent much better performances, with West again having far more of the football, but lacking a little potency in attack. Lack of discipline on occasions cost them dearly, with 2 goals coming from double 25 metre penalties.

It seems compulsory for some to say that any West game was of a poor standard, but there was a lot of clean and exciting football and the Bloods are developing a lot of new players who are showing plenty of talent, along with a group of younger players who are getting more games under their belt.

For West, Daniel Caire was outstanding, Chris Schmidt and Ben Fisher very good, Brad Moran rucked well all day and James Ezard continued his good form with outstanding work in the packs and 14 possessions in the first quarter. Plenty of other good players, including Bronik Davies, Damian Cupido and Ryan Ferguson who held Adam Grocke most of the day.

For the Eagles, from an opposition viewpoint, the better players would have come from Broadbent, Hier, McGregor, Stewart, Jarrad and Shirley, with Allmond certainly a very promising player. I thought McKenzie and Powell were down a bit on their usual output.

All in all, plenty to look forward to from the Bloods as they continue to improve.

It was Barber that took the mark in the dying seconds.

Bad kicking = bad football. How hard were our shots at goal? were they easy or hard.

It was the first quarter with the 7 points(can someone let us know how many were rushed at least one was handballed by west) that didnt help the Eagles.
Plus a very hard fast running West side left the eagles in their wake.eagles had trouble getting the ball from centre before halftime .

I missed the first quarter so I cant comment on WWT inacurate kicking, but in the last 3 quarters they did miss a few set shots but a lot of their points were kicks under pressure so you would expect the point column to be higher than the goal column.

Our midfield was on top all day except for about a 5-10 min period in the third quarter, which just so happened to coincide with Davies going to the bench for a breather and we got back into the game almost as soon as he came back on.

WWT looked so much more dangerous than we did up forward all day.

We certainly moved the ball out of defence more efficiently and we reduced our defensive witholding period noticably but it still needs improvement. We Pfaff around with it through the middle too much, our forwards don't know when to lead so they creep up the ground causing conjestion between the full forward line and half forward, then the half forward line goes stagnant and they all just stand there going "where the **** do I go now???" so they don't clear out the corridor so the full forward line can lead into it. Something that the Eagles did much better than we did today, but they have had their playing group together for a lot longer.

I would expect to see more improvement as we get used to each other but will be improve enough to avoid being winless after the first 7 rounds, probably not we have a few tough weeks ahead and our next should/could win is probably the Eagles at home in round 8.

And yes JT it was Barber who took a screamer in the last to save our but, but that is not the kick the WWT boys are refering to ;)
Which BTW was one of the few highlights of Auntie Barbera's game today. And Martin cant make the league team???

Willits didn't get much of it today, he looks very down in confidence and he played behind all day and he just didn't present himself like I know he can. IMO he wasn't being lazy just indecisive.

He showed his frustration a couple of times and may have been lucky not to give away a few silly kicks and maybe even a report.

At least his kicking was good today, that shot at the 25min mark of the last quarter from 55m on the fence looked a goal all the way till the last 10m (was standing almost straight behind it)

So he did pretty well really considering he didn't get much of the ball, but we need him to really lift alot if we want to post a win anytime soon.

Cupido has been worked out a bit by the opposition coaches too. Whoever he is standing just runs back and plays FF or FP and takes him out of the game for a couple of minutes while we re arange our defence.

There was more than one of us calling for Cupido to FF and Willits into defence, would be interesting to see the outcome but I am not expecting to see that move on the field in the near future.
