Lofty v Blackwood - GF replay. Mt Lofty to again be the measuring stick this year, although think will play out a few closer games over the season as compared to recent years where they've had it pretty much their own way. Blackwood unknown. New coach and a few outs - Bowen a key out. Intersting to see how recruits go. Can't see them getting over Lofty this time though. Lofty by 6 goals.
Bridgewater at home to Onkas. Predict a close game, don't think Onaks will be as bad as some have predicted. Still have good core group particularly with Klun back in the middle. Raiders to improve on back of recruits and will match up well. Onkas by a couple I reckon.
Hahndorf at home with some handy recruits as well. No reported losses so suggest they along with Mt Lofty and Uraidla to be around the mark again this year. Ironbank like blackwood have gone about their business quietly over summer, however don't think they have the cattle to match up with the magpies. Hahndorf by 10 goals.
A lot of talk all summer about how Birdwood will be improve, no doubt they will, but intersted to see how they go against the experienced cabbage line-up. Think Uraidla will again be around the mark this year. A good test first up for roosters. Uraidla to win by 7 goals.
Not much talk about Mt Barker over summer. Finished 4th last year and would expect them to be around the mark come finals time again. Tigers rebuilding and have picked up a few, but not enough to push Mt Barker. Roos by 8 goals at home.
Just my thoughts on what I have read. Looking forward to a competitive season by all teams. Predict GF to be between Mt Lofty/Uraidla/Hahndorf.

I dont know if it is just me or is football for some reason just seem to be better this year. already everyone is so amped and excited about it. i personally have not been this excited about a footy season before and i am not sure if everyone is the same but to me it looks like everyone i stoked that its back. Even in AFL, everyone seems so pumped that its back. my theory is that everyone is thinking about the future with the economic crisis or other issues and footy seems to blind us from it, when playing there is nothing else that matters for the two hours we are out there. when watching, any other conversation or commitment atomatically gets put on the back burner when footy is on. It is like our happy place or therapist or something. Even weddings ( a life long commitment of love????? won't be scheduled during footy season by a player or fan) I find it funny and exciting that a game can have so much meaning and hold such a place in so many peoples hearts that i am declaring Australian Rules Football a religion.
(if only i had the power to do that officially

So does that mean he's not playing for Ironbank tomorrow and they are just waiting for him to lodge a clearance?

Bridgy V Onkas- Will be a good game to see where the two are at Onkas just
Hahndy V Ironbank- closer than most projections big test for Ironbank...
Birdwood V Uraidla- every year the roosters talk it up and every year they are well off the pace Uraidla by 10 or more. Birdwood need depth, a game plan and better skills before they climb up the ladder and only time will tell if they have managed to improve any of these this year...
Barker V Lobey- Barker by 10, tigers would have to have improved enormously for them not to take the wooden spoon this year...
Ladder:
Lofty
Blacky
Uraidla
Hahndorf
Ironbank
Mt Barker
Onkas
Bridgey
Birdwood
Lobey
Think you will find the ladder will fall in those three groups- 4 serious contenders 3 teams around the mark with a few upsets and then the rest...

I think you are spot on there TSO.
My tip is Hahndorf for the flag though guys. Too many quality recruits to cover.

The $1000 man (Brad De Vries) did a few good things but considering his background didn't pose a real threat, maybe $200 a game may have been more appropriate from the raiders. Onkas new guys seem to run the ball pretty well but it was the same old guys winning them the game (Klun, Tanner etc). I think having the past Mail Medalist Klun and Kirwan back from the big smoke really helped them out as well. Nick Smart had about 100 kicks but unfortunately he couldn't hit sand if he fell off a camel, so was no where near as effective as he could be.
Big issue in the game with Onkas calling for a head count after bridgewater had replaced a yellow carded player after about 35 seconds. They only had about 3 goals at the time so not a huge difference. The raiders all just stood around the middle scratching their heads pointing the blame at any one who would listen (apparently their new found, fat cheque book cant buy any brains). I left just before the end of the match but think onkas won buy about 6 goals according to the score board but i think it will be 9 goals in the courier.
Any other scores around the grounds????

Another one Ironbank have lost!! No wonder they're not on here talking themselves up like they were this time last year.

Was at the Onkas v Bridgy game also, that head count thing was quite strange as Bridgy did have 18 players on the field when they were only meant to have 17 but nothing come about from it.
I think the final score was something like Onkas 13 17 to Bridgewater 8 6
Onkas were definately the more dominate team and could've won by a lot more if they kicked straighter, I think it'll be goal kicking for them at training this week.
As for Bridgys big recruits I must agree, given todays performance by them, definatley not worth the sort of coin their on.
