Just wanted to say it was good toread the mail's country footy guide where Ryan Darling's still playing. He should have stayed at Sturt. One year wasn't enough.
I liked that story on the old guy from Tailem as well who won 7 Mail medals

Yes, most of us could only wish we had his talent, but each to their own. Knowing the bloke as I do, the article summed him up pretty well. He could have gone far as a cricketer too, but the idea of working hard at a game that comes so naturally to him doesn't really appeal. Which is understandable. It takes a unique type of person to make the sacrifices required to get to the highest level of any sport, and if you're not prepared to make them, there's no point kidding yourself. At least he had a go, and is probably satisfied that he was able to play at that level. Anyway, good luck to him and I hope to see him around the poker table sometime soon! :)

I didn't read the article but this is obviously about Bohdan Cybulka. He was before my time, but was obviously a sensational player in country footy. Won all but one Medal with Tailem Bend, then 1 with Ramblers towards the end of his career. He was a late starter as far as Aussie Rules was concerned, grew up playing soccer.

Tried out with Glenelg, but apparently didn't see eye to eye with Kerley.

I'd love to have a read of it as we don't get this in town, but that thing is impossible to see. Normal view, the writing is too small, zoom in and you just get a blur.

Interestingly Central District chased Ryan Darling really really hard for 2 years. He eventually choose Sturt as his SANFL club. Wonder how things would have changed had he a chance of being part of last seasons Premiership success with the Dogs.

Give it ten seconds and it should adjust from blur to crystal clear.

I remember bowling Ryan Darling out in my last game of underage cricket.

I was heading off to France halfway through the year so Johnny Higgs threw me the new ball. It was swinging like Tarzan and had Darling all over the shop. Eventually I put him out of his misery and delivered him a Gammy special at his noggin. He was out caught behind trying to hook me.

That was my last ever game of proper cricket.

His "old man" wouldn't be impressed that he hardly got a mention in the article ;)

Could play cricket. I remember when I played Country Carnival he dominated - I think he only got out once in the whole carnival - he was the only wicket i got for the whole carnival - he was about 120 at the time. He won the batter of the carinval and was equal in the most wickets... Just a freak!!!

I think most clubs were, Eagles definately were. I think thats Rick Macgowan first saw him train, when Rick was coaching the 2's and Ryan did a pre-season. The following year, Darling + Macgowan to Sturt! Eagles definately missed out!

I know that he was with Eagles at a younger ages and wasnt real happy, probably the reason why he didnt begin SANFL at a younger age. Which is a shame when you concider the hights he could have reached. His connection with sturt was through Rick Magowan who supplied his old man with work equiptment. He didnt go to centrals because he was too scared he wouldnt get a game but by the form he showed early with Sturt and the success of Sturt throughout the year, I dont think he would have had any problems. I think that what everyone has forgotten about the Ryan is that Lochiel produces only the best.
