expect to see an upset or two in the first few weeks. last year, west croyden thrashed hope valley if i remember correct. its all about who can settle first and start playing consistent footy

You must be confused. The thrashing I remember was in Round 1 when you blokes got wiped off Hope Valley Oval to the tune of 81 points!! West Croydon only beat us by 16 points in Round 2...

my bad on that but to prove my point with actual statistics
Brahma Lodge 12.13 85 Glenunga 10.7 67
Glenunga 11.7 73 Westminster OS 14.11 95
Lockleys 14.16 100 Glenunga13.7 85

glenunga lost by no more than 4 goals in its first 3 matches, two against quality teams. with a bit of luck on their side, they could have been 3-0 up. always hard to get a season going afta being 0-3 down

They also lost another 9 games for the year, which shows luck had nothing to do with it in the first three rounds. They just weren't very good

In Glenunga's defence they didn't get flogged as much as Brahma Lodge last year. I thought in some games they were quite competitive, i'm still amazed by the Brahma Lodge hype, if you read some of there results from last year they would need to bring out a whole different team this year to be in the top 2 or 3. I'm happy to be proven wrong though. Only my opinion from seeing them last year and reading their results.

I also watched Mitchell Parks last trial and I thought they looked fairly solid in knocking off Kennilworth. Mind you Kennilworth were still missing a fair few and I dont know if Mitchell Park were at full strength or not.

Not to mention Mitchell Park went with Marion last week and Marion would be better than anything div 6 can offer. People are judging these blokes on their trial v Central United at Elizabeth. Do you really think they were anything near full strength when they play their first trial on the other side of town. They will break some hearts this year sorry to say fellas, probably make the 5. In the southern messenger I notice Happy Valley cleared quite a few names to Mitchell Park. Happy Valley are no mugs...........

May be up to 15 new recruits in the starting 21 FC, so you may be right, and even though they finished 9th, the performances wern't terrible. Got flogged in a couple of games, but finished off well

Sounds like they will have improved a fair bit from last year with some handy pick ups, I'm sure these guys can play but I would be suspect of there overall depth and their bottom 5 or 6 guys, maybe the difference from them finishing higher.

Have heard a lot of talk regarding Glenunga languishing in the bottom 2 this year.
I went for a look at their trial on sunday as i was in the area after a big night in town and know a few blokes out there.
I'm not accustomed to the standard of div 6 footy, but these guys really put on a good show. It was damn hot out there and the majority of the lads ran out the 4 quarters with ease, and the skills were solid from most of them and looked like they had the cattle to field a really balanced side. A young side who had level headed blokes roaming HF & HB, and had some finesse through the middle. I've seen a lot of hype about Brahma Lodge but even with all the hype, and their 'recruits' they had wanna be switched on come saturday. Apparently the whole vibe around Glenuga is really good and they're a much better side than last year, team-orientated and everyone gets along on & off the field which is different from last year.

FYI, I managed to gather some further detail on Saturday nights trial game:

1st game 3 x 20 minute quarters

BL B Grade 12 - 3
NP A & B Grade 9 - 4

2nd game 3 x 20 minute quarters

BL A Grade 15 - 13
NP A & B Grade 6 - 1

NP had a squad of about 30 that rotated through both games
BL had a B Grade squad with a couple of A Graders with the A Grade having 18 topped up by a couple of B Graders

NP had about 10 - 15 out with a cricket presentation
BL had about 12 A Grade Squad & 9 B Grade squad out with cricket finals etc

I'm thinking the old guy with the grey hair and the little no.3 who looked like he was about 13 may have been ring ins..

Mind you, the old fella went alright though!
