If Johncock is ready, then he'll come back in -I reckon he was missed in the 2nd half on saturday.

Reilly didn't have great game that's for sure.
It might be Cooke and Mackay who make way.

I'd be shocked if Mackay was omitted, everything he did on Saturday was pure class as always. A couple of plays deep into the final term when the game was on the line spring to mind, such as a clean handball between two collingwood players on the defensive side of centre to clear and take us forward - he actually ran at them as if looking to break through the double tackle before firing the quick handball to a free man. A player of lesser nous could easily have telegraphed the move and failed to get the footy through the gap.

Otten racked up 19 quality touches, looks absolutely at home, he's safe. Petrenko played some tough, dynamic footy and was up and about on the home stretch in the final term, he's safe imo. Dangerfield in my eyes is safe, not only because of what class he showed but how much scope there is for some pretty rapid improvement. You're talking about a potentially elite footballer, as in cream of the competition elite. I think the club will be falling over itself to have this bloke in the starting 22 every week, and I'd be disappointed if he was dropped after his round 1 performance.

Cook showed plenty - his toughness at the contest and leg speed are major weapons, and two things I don't think people have spoken much about; his reading of the play and navigation through traffic; are also impressive. Off the top of my head right now I can recall three passages of play in congestion where he was either able to move into the correct position ahead of the play, or find his way through a gauntlet of three or more Collingwood players and release the footy effectively. Having said that, his disposal by foot is not yet where it should be (although it's improving every time he plays), which is something he can work on at SANFL level. He will be left out for Thompson you'd think.

As for Johncock...I would still omit Doughty for him but who knows...

Johncock is an interesting one, with Goody and McLeod providing so much run from our back lines you'd think that Johncock would be used down back when Macca or Goody are either rested, going forward, or in the centre, and when they are both working well in the backlines Stiffy will find himself up forward again.
I think Edwards is in for a big year, apart from his midfield work, I think he can make a really good half forward. I reckon he can kick 30-50 goals there.

if you were to omit anyone from this side for johncock, the person that went in for him would be the one that is dropped. it would be a very unlucky circumstance but that person would be petrenko. i thought he did an oustanding job for his first serious hitout but at the end of the day it is up to the selection panel. i hope he doesnt go. as for the midfield position you think it might be cooke but again we wont know until thursday night.

I think Petrenko and Dangerfield were the replacements for Thompson and Johncock

However Petrenko did enough from what I saw to put him ahead of Cook. So, Cook and Danger most likely to go IMO.

However, a report yesterday said that Thompson was no certaintly for this week anyway.

Would have thought Dangerfield did enough to retain his place ... I know someone has to go when you have players befitting your best 22 to return, but I would have thought we'd look elsewhere (lol although I can't think of anyone else at the moment).

I'd keep Dangerfield personally - I reckon he's a potential game breaker! I was just guessing at how the selectors might look at it. Another option is Mackay.

Because St Kilda have more talls in their forward line I wonder if they'll look at a 3rd big man so we can get the match-ups right? Moran or Griffin or maybe even Sellar  That means we'd have to squeeze out someone else!

Yeah fair call Hondo ... You'd say Bocky would get the job on St Nick, but from the highlights it looked as though the Saints relied a bit on Kosi up forward so they'll need someone capable on him, probably looking as though Moran is the best bet (unless they think the difference in height wouldn't be an issue for Rutten).

I guess they'll go with King and Gardiner in ruck too, who was Maric's backup on the weekend?

(And just btw, I luv the way Maric goes about his business ... Behaves on the field like a big bloke should, constantly the first to defend his teammates).

Just on the talls, Craigy won't want to make too many changes but I was disappointed with Tippet's game on the weekend. Gave away frees and didn't have much impact and when he had a chance to score once again missed. If Griffen's form is as good as some say for the Dogs there could be a swap there, although as I said that could make up to 4 changes if Stiffy and Thompson are both ready and another tall comes in to the backlines. I can't see 4 changes to a winning side so should be an interesting week at selection. I guess the other question is whether Hentschel could do a job down back on Kosi.....

Surely Shirley (oops) will struggle to get a game this year? Look at the young talent we have, we can't be keeping them out at the expense of a 28? year old with limited ability. I guess the time for Shirley will be at the mid point of the year when the tough season is starting to take its toll on the youngsters. As of right now though he shouldn't be near our best 22.

In: Johncock, Thompson
Out: Cook (very unluck), ???

Can't drop Mackay, or Dangerfield. I'd drop Tippett even though that leaves us with only Maric in the ruck...

Out: Cook, Dogga (i know it wont happen)

Will be a shame to see Cook go out after playing well. Would have been a nice confidence boost for him and given him a chance to settle at this level.

I think Shirley might also come in for this game to cut Del Santo out of the game.

Will be interesting to see what happens

IMO I don't think Shirley should come in to tag. I think they are best giving the role to Dangerfield to improve his positioning skills. He certainly has the pace, and looks to have the strength to play this role effectively in his initial development, i.e. what Carlton has done with Gibbs. If Dal Santo etc was to drop backto help out defence, then Dangerfiled could still be damaging around our goals.
I'm proud of you fellas. You all kept your head on a swivel, and that's what you gotta do when you find yourself in a vicious cock fight!
