Good start to his SANFL career by Terlich, 3 goals is a very positive start. Ports forward line doesn't look as though it did too well tonight. Barham, 2, and Waterhouse kicked 3 but the rest look as though they were mainly midfielders, i'm sure Clayton spent some time forward but that would be a concern i would think for port fans.

Port really need someone like Mercer or Lobbe to stand up and become a consistent player at SANFL level this year. Too much reliance on the same people. Dissapointing start to the year

The RPH boundry rider type chap said that Trotter's 'night was finished' in the last quarter but didn't tell us why.

I think at one point they said that KMac looked like he might have hurt a foot...but I could be mistaken.

well norwood got out of the blocks very quickly & within about 12-15 minutes led 4.2.26 to nil, port then clawed its way back into the game (i think it would've been 30 or so minutes between norwoods 4th & 5th goal) & got to within a point halfway through the 3rd term when summerton dropped an easy chest mark basically on the 50 metre line in ports defensive area & this resulted in a goal & 2 more goals came quickly as well & norwood had a buffer & port although not giving up were never going to win after that, port as usual rely on clayton to do too much, he spent the majority of the game up forward where his class was obvious, i also thought that norwood had a distinctive game plan but i'm not sure port has one (or tim has tricked me) but they do definately have a crack & no doubt if you could clone humans tim would be cloning 4 or 5 claytons, while norwoods midfield is very good i'm not sure their forwards will kick enough goals to win crunch games against the centrals & that calibre of opponents throughout the year

BUT THE BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT OF THE NIGHT IS THE BBQ IT HAS CHANGED & HAS CHANGED FOR THE WORST

Norwood got away to a flyer kicking the first 4 goals with Port not having a sniff but they woked back into it well. Jeremy Clayton spent a fair bit of time up forward early and took 2 amazingly couragous marks running back with the flight of the ball before finishing the last quarter on the ball, while Kris Massie had a fair bit of the footy throughout for the Legs. Dean Terlich wasn't as classy as I saw him in 3 of Norwood's trials but showed he will certainly be a handy pick up for the Legs finishing with 3 majors. Brett Zorzi showed his experience playing well in defence for the victors and I was very impressed with the run and flash shown from Isaac Weetra on debut for the visitors.

Was very impressed with Sam Rowe's 3rd term, his attack on the ball was great and he finished off well to end up with 4 majors for the night. Corey AhChee was his usual and reliable self across half back and young Sam Mardling showed a few good signs for the Maggies. Bryce Campbell got better as the game went on and the 2 Power boys, Matt Thomas and Nick Lower were pretty good throughout the night. Was pretty impressed early with Joel Perry in defence and was a solid contributor for Port on the last line of defence while Mark Dolling was his usual hard working self. James Meiklejohn and Stephen Doyle had a pretty even battle in the ruck with Norwood's mifdfield probably winning more clearances than Port throughout the course of the night.

Brendan Littler and Gavin Hughes won plenty of the ball on their wings for the Legs while Nick Duigan was excellent taking pack marks and providing run from the half back line. Port's forward line was a little disfunctional at times with Jordan Barham and Clive Waterhouse only having a couple of purple patches each here and there. Jamie Vlatko looked good early for Norwood early but faded late in the game while Andy Lee seemed to struggle to adjust to the pace of SANFL early but finsihed with a nice goal and an absolute beauty of a slips catch up in attack. Steve Summerton won a bit of the ball for Port but his skills let him down at times while Tim Looby used his booming left foot from the half back line to good effect on a few occassions.

Trevor Hill will be pleased to start the year off with a 5 goal win but will dissapointed with their lack of intensity across 4 quarters. Fading in and out of the game is something they will want to address and make sure that when they are in a strong position on the scorebaord, they don't go defensive and continue to attack with scorebaord pressure. Timmy Ginevar will like what he saw from a few of his younger players and of course the competitions number one player in Jeremy Clayton but will of course be concerned with his lack of cohesion in the Magpies forward line. David Trotter, who wasn't really noticed throughout the course of the game finished his night at 3/4 time with ice on the back of the hamstring while I wasn't aware of any injuries for the visitors. Not a bad crowd of 6500 which is about what would have been expected I guess.

It was a great game to watch last night and I really enjoyed being back at an SANFL game after the summer break!

The ground was in really good nick and it was a great night for footy! Plenty of good banter amongst the crowd and a great atmosphere in general.

For Norwood I felt that Jamie Vlatko really stood out as one of their best, for Port Jeremy Clayton stood up and I thought Clive Waterhouse had some pretty good moments as well!

Port may well have lost the match but their intensity was consistantly high throughout the match, it was more a case of Norwood having a better side on the day that was still yet frustrated by Port at many opportunities. I do think that the Magpies have improved from last season and I do also think that they will continue to improve this season!

Nita played in the reserves, Trotter appears to have a hamstring again and McInnes had some treatment on ground for what appeared to be an ankle but looks OK.
Overall I personally was disappointed in Norwood's over use of the ball particularly coming out of defense. If we dont get rid of this out of our game we will not beat the likes of Centrals and Co. Norwood have the players and the depth to be a big threat this year but need to improve greatly from that game last night.
Port had their moments but made some shocking skill errors. They were right in the game up until the last 15 minutes although they never really looked like winning. Port will improve and will play finals.

And I was one of the 6572, Standing on Coopers Hill about half way between the bar and the BBQ.
It was the first SANFL game I'd been to in many years - I arrived back from Melbourne on March 18th.
It was a good one to be at - a good win against Port - even if Norwood's effort did seem to fluctuate.
The only problem was the unavoidable cigarette smoke and the headache I have today as a result of the exposure...

That crowd was bigger than 6,500...more like 8,000 IMHO. They probably dont count people like me who have a seasons ticket prepaid at the club.....how could they count those because they dont go through the gate where you buy tickets.
I think there were 6,500 who paid at the gate because there were many more than 6,500.

Just something I noticed while watching the game.

PS 6500 seemed about right to me for the crowd number.
