Lennon is going nowhere after winger signs contract extension at Spurs

Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon today signed a two-year extension to his contract to keep him at White Hart Lane until 2014.

Lennon, whose recent form has seen him tipped for an England recall, was not thought to be among the top earners in Harry Redknapp's squad. Redknapp said: 'We're delighted to have him. He is still learning the game but he has real ability.'

The England Under-21 star, who joined Spurs from Leeds in 2005, has enjoyed an
upturn in fortunes since Redknapp's arrival.

He was linked with a move to Liverpool in this morning's papers while Real Madrid - now under former Spurs boss Juande Ramos - were also reported to bemonitoring his progress.

Yep, it was magic to see this news this week. Well done to Lennon and well done to Spurs management. Soo good to see that he'll be in a Spurs shirt for next season at least. It'll take a stupid bid to take him from us now and IMO, Rafa's treatment of Keano will ensure that if he does leave, it won't be to the bin dippers. Not sure why Rafa would want him anyway, as he doesn't really play with an out and out winger, but rather relies on the likes of his link up strikers (Kuyt) to play the out wide role.

Great news for Spurs though. It's been a great couple of weeks for us yids!

Luka Modric could be heading to Serie A at the end of the season, according to the Tottenham midfielder's Italian representative.

The Croatian joined Spurs from Dinamo Zagreb last summer and, after a slow start to his Premier League career, has caught the eye with a series of impressive performances.

He has also earned praise from manager Harry Redknapp but speculation has surfaced about whether he will stay at White Hart Lane.

Juventus have been strongly linked with a move for Modric as they look for a replacement for retiring playmaker Pavel Nedved.

Fifa agent Sabatino Durante believes a transfer may go ahead, but only if Juve are able to match Tottenham's valuation of the player.

"He certainly could, but a lot depends on the economic situation," Durante said in the Evening Standard.

"Modric will not leave London for any less than 24million euros (£22.3million).

"Modric has been one of the best midfielders in Europe for the last two or three years, because he has just the right mix of quantity and quality.

"He can play in Nedved's position, just behind the strikers. Basically, he can do everything."

Reckon Rafa has to play that way as he can't seem to find a dynamo on the right he is as capable defensively as offensively, Kuyt at least offers some of that (lol Ill let you guess which he shows more of )

You are right though, Rafa's unfair treatment of RK should be a gentle reminder for all Spurs players to be careful what you wish for, especially as you may not be as fortunate to find your way back home.

Modric is obviously playing some great football in the second half of the season and Redknapp has said he rates him as one of the best midfielders in the world but if he wants to go a la Berbasulk what can you do.

I think he will give Spurs another season.

I highly doubt Modric will leave to go to Italy. Domestically, the Serie A is shot to pieces with 90% of games played in front of virtually empty stadiums.

It's not the place to go to challenge true world class opposition like it used to be. England and Spain are light years ahead now.

I agree with EOT, Modric will be at Spurs next season. Daniel Levy will have learned his lesson about selling your best players I think, particularly with the form and balance our team is showing at the moment.

IMO, there will be no 1st team 'outs' over summer. Perhaps a couple of backup type additions to the squad for LB, LM and CB, but that'll be it. Fingers crossed anyway!

P.S. Our squad players and youth team are on fire too having defeated Chavski 4-0 in the reserves earlier in the week and 5-0 in the youth league on Friday. Plus, we've already loaned out the likes of Dos Santos, Taarabt, Obika, Townsend, Gunter, Archibald-Henville, Dervitte etc, so some real depth is coming through at the Lane.

i knew the spuds would come home strong, got a decent side so didnt think they belonged down the bottom half of table. As much as i would love the day they went down but not for a while yet if things continue as they are. Could be spuds in champ league the way they are playing for next season

Never thought I would say this but I love big Arry thanks for the big favour on the weekend. Pity Villa couldn't do a better job against the Scousers. Am a little concerned about playing the Spurs at Trafford with the form the two sides are in even though it is a month away still.

The number one factor is Wilson Palacios's yellow card tally. He has 12 for the season, and the way the staggered suspension accumulation system works, is that if he picks up another 3 yellows before about mid April, he'll be suspended for 3 games.

Spurs have 3 games before playing Utd and the way Wilson plays, he'll be suspended by the time we make the trip to Old Trafford unfortunately, which will totally screw up our system. It's no surprise that the current run we're on has coincided with Palacios's debut for Spurs against the scum.

Another big factor is Ledley King being called up for England. FFS, last time e played for the national side, he was out for 6 months after. BETTER BLOODY NOT GET INJURED!

And just on Ledley, the is not a more talented, consistently brilliant all round CB in world football. The man is unbelievable. Long live the King.

There was a report on SkySports yesterday saying his old boss Hughes will come in for him at Citeh and the Villa and Everton are possibilities.

For the moment, I'd rather hang onto him and see if 'Arry can work his magic.

Ferdinand - no - undisciplined at times, chats to the ref all day and doesn't have the quality of distribution that Ledly does.
Vidic - no - perhaps a better offensive player that Ledders, but defensively, the King is miles ahead and quicker/stronger too.

Carra - don't make me laugh. He's as slow as a wet week. He has some good defensive qualities, but not a pinch on Ledley, not even in his prime.

And Makelele is a defensive midfielder, which is actually where Ledley started out, but is more important to the team at CB.
