Talk about cards close to chest! Mannum, Yankalilla or Mt Barker?? My mail suggests it was Fleurieu Pen not the SE freeway...

Mt Barker played Reynella in the A's while the Yankalilla A/B's combined played 4 x 15 minute quarters against Mt Barker B and the same against Reynella B's. Mt Barker B"s would have won by 7-8 goals easily( no scoreboard). Didn't stay for the A's but know that at least 4 were out for a Buck's show or clipsal 500. Game was played at Yank.

Started as a bit of hot air talk after our cricket GF win last week, but momentum has grown..

There is a meeting this week to decide where it's headed. Apparently the HFL will accomodate other towns entering a team in the C grade, as Lenswood currently isn't the only one considering it from what I've been told.

Negotiation would have to talk place with Uraidla I'd imagine, as Lenswood is tied to that club through Eastern Rangers.

Would be great to see the red and greens running around again. I'm still not 100% certain it will/can happen, but we'll see....

You never want to give anything away when the person who was asking was from the team you play round 1! ;)

Should be a good match up, I rekon a div 2 side would knock a dive 4 side by 10 to 12 goals?
Any thoughts???

How did Rooster recruits go? Bout 10 I heard, new to side?

Uraidla will pump Birdwood in Round 1. Birdwood will improve but they dont have the depth of Uraidla. I reckon there would be Div 2 amatuer sides who would beat other Div 2 amateur sides by 10-12 goals!!

I don't know why so many people put so much emphasis on trial match results. The results count for nothing and you don't know how many players are missing from teams best sides. Uri's had about 5 or 6 out of their best out of the trial game against Broadview. Not sure how many Broadview would have had either. At the end of the day who really cares!! It's a trial game.

As far as depth goes for the first game, do mean depth of the squad at URI's or the depth of the starting 21, because both birdwood and URU would want to play their best 21 in round 1 and from what I saw birdwood's starting 21 will be no push over and they too had at least 4 or 5 walk in A graders missing. tend to agree with beeeched! Teddy are you saying that Uraidla's best 21 have more depth of talent than Birdwood's best 21. Or do you think Uraidla have more depth of players at their club?

Both. You can't seriously think that Birdwood's best 21 are equal to Uraidla's? Anyway I guess we will see what happens in Round 1.

Totally agree with you Ted.

How can you compare a top 3 side over the past 3 years with a side that won 4 games last year? I know Birdwood have recruited well but I think you Birdwood lads are just jumping the gun a little bit.

would like to reiterate that we at Birdwood are not getting ahead of ourselves. As i stated previously we're very aware you cannot read too much into trials... and don't expect to win every game this year... just looking to be competitive in every game and continue our improvement.

You boys could well be the big improvers with the 3 you've picked up, providing everyone stays sound.

Birdwood do have a fair bit of ground to make up though.
I'm not sure if the top and bottom 5 will change from 2008, but i would've thought that the gap between the two should be a fair bit closer than last year.
Hopefully there won't be any massive blow-outs this year and the first game against Uri's might show where we're really at.
I still think Uri's will go in as hot favourites though.

Cabbage as favourite...you can't go past Hahndorf and Lofty at this stage I wouldn't have thought.

Hey does anyone know how Lobethal went in their trial game on the weekend?

Loby won their A Grade trial fairly comfortably, but lost Chris Tarasenko ( the recruit from Nairne ) with a knee injury that might keep him out for the season.

Favourites to beat Birdwood in Round 1; not the premiership Dashin.

Did Nick Woolford play, if so how did he go? Would expect a slow start after talking to him the other night but will blitz during the season no doubt.

My bad, yeah the Cutters should win that one.

As for the ladder i think it's going to be a very interesting season to say the least. Birdwood sound very solid to say the least. Lobey have picked up a heap of quality players. For mine i think Ironbank will take the wooden spoon this year. Onkas...who knows. Barker will be around the mark but nothing flash, a side like birdwood may very well challenge them this year, although ahving said that i'd like to see them play before i make any judgement. Bridgey i think will probably be below Lobey this year, given most of their recruits look like below par apart from Devries who is more injury prone than a soccer layer.

Here's my ladder

Lofty
Hahndorf
Uri
Blackwood
Barker

Birdwood - based on the way people are talking them up
Onkas
Lobey
Bridgey
Ironbank
