Round 1: Collingwood vs Adelaide

Postby hearts on fire » Sun Mar 22, 2009 7:57 pm

This will be a tight tussle, but i think the Magpies may be too good at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Collingwood to win by about 3-4 goals.

Info: 2:10pm start @ Melbourne Cricket Ground.

This is an intriguing match for sure. I've thought all throughout the lead up to round 1 that the pies would put us away fairly comfortably at the MCG but that was before I compared the likely teams on paper, line by line. Probably setting myself up for a fall here but I can't see how anyone thinks the pies will be a contender this season, especially given their midfield. That is not to say we're a threat either, but at least on paper we should account for Collingwood. Adelaide by 22 points.

Should be a very good match, with the Pies as strong favourites.

Gonna take a very consistent effort from the Crows to win as Collingwood won't lie down.
Collingwood by a few goals, but hope I'm wrong :)

After a great deal of thought, reviewing both sides, and considering pre-season form, I'm going for Collingwood :)

Johncock's absence changes things a bit. He looked to be in for a career-best season and being without his dynamic play out of defense will hurt; not as confident of a win as I was. We can only hope the lad comes through as a stronger person.

cant wait for it. there could be 3 debutants. Walker, Petrenko and Cook, as well as Dangerfield, Otten and Jacky who between them have played 7 games.

10 goals is a bit excessive... but I agree Collingwood will win.

Their experience across the board will be too strong for the Crows new faces... But i'm excited about the potential these kids are showing and the direction the club is going...

I expect this to be a very tough first 6 weeks and if the Crows can come out the other side 3-3 then they have done very well.
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

Well I thought with Johncock playing we'd be able to restrict their major strength, small forwards, enough to press our advantage elsewhere; losing him is bad enough but now it appears we'll be without Thompson as well. If that's the case it'll take something special to get up but I'm bloody excited to see our kids nonetheless.
