Can't say i have seen him AH. Although Andrew McDonald isn't doing much at the moment, still not a dud in my book.

That's how big a dud he is, I couldn't even be bothered learning his correct name, knowing he won't be around for long. I hope he paid to get into the ground because all he's done is watch the Test.

Jaques has been injured Pidge and hasn't played a lot of cricket lately. Klinger and Rogers might have got the nod but they've gone for the younger player in my view for two reasons. Firstly, the kid has shown he can make runs in difficult conditions in the shield and he's already done that in his second test innings. Secondly, if we go Rogers or Klinger then we are going to have a similar problem bobbing up again when Ponting, Hussey, Haddin and the older opener are all ready to move on. By staggering the age a bit we might be able to manage the transition a bit more smoothly than we have done in the last year or so.

Spot on. In order to play for Australia, a cricketer has to excel at various levels of cricket, through the grade system, then Sheffield Shield (the toughest sub-Test competition in the world) , before even getting selected. This means they have already proven themselves at a high standard of cricket before getting an Aussie spot. There is no such thing as a "dud" playing for Australia, only those who couldn't quite reach the ultimate standard once they got there. No shame in that. If it was easy, everyone would be playing there.

I think in order to gain perspective, and appreciation, a lot of posters on these forums should do themselves a favour and go out to Grade matches on the rare times these guys play and witness how superior they are at that level.

And to those who think some of us take the game too seriously, forums are not just about coming online and trying to me a comedian (and failing miserably), there are SOME people who actually enjoy balanced and informed conversation about the game ... and unfortunately there's nowhere you can go except forums like this.

And you're welcome anytime Pidgeon. If everyone agrees all the time it makes for a pretty dull forum.

The only reason i didnt agree with Hughes' selection in the first place was that i hadnt really heard of him much before. This was probably because i hadnt been looking closely at the scores, but good luck to him.

Hughes, PJ NSW 891 runs @ 74.25.

Thats what he made when he was selected for the South African Tour.

Like REB said it is not the end of the world. it actually makes the forum more enjoyable to be around with a few positive arguments about selection and form. Would not have it any other way!
