Apprenticeships

Postby hearts on fire » Tue Mar 17, 2009 4:59 pm

Hi there, i am really getting sick of school and i think it's time for me to get out of there and get an apprenticeship!

I would like to do get an apprenticeship in the Plumbing area or the Electrician area.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I was just stirring. My advice, get out asap if you're doing an apprenticeship. You'll get paid peanuts for a while but after that you'll be set. If the recession pisses off.

There's not many brickie apprentices out there either, if you don't mind getting dirty, you've got a good chance.

What many people are not aware of is that the number of jobs that are actually advertised are not even remotley the amount of jobs available! - Have a think about specific companies that you might like to work for and then approach their HR departments directly, you will get many more leads that way than just following ads in the paper or Seek.com.

Go to Maxina or Master Builders and register your name with a resume stating what trade you are looking for/wanting to get into...

To start with it is tough on the starting wage but in the long run it pays off....

The will always be work for trades....

Good luck!! ;)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

HOF go to PEER VEET at Port Road, Albert Park. Ph 83481200.

they are just like a TAFE but they hire apprentices.

First you should do a pre- voc course thru them to give yourself a better chance at getting an apprenticeship.

Give them a call and see what they say.

Good Luck

Money for the first few years is crap if you work for an company, but dont forget you wont be very productive in the initial years and the company still pays the same rate for your super, annual leave, sick leave. Also you get other benifits like tool allowances and burst payments as incentives (the company will also get incentives for taking on an apprentice).

Electrical and plumbing are the only trades that you are absolutely 100% obliged to do a 4 year apprenticeship to obtain your restricted trade licence.

Bricklaying, Solid plastering, concreting, steel fixing, roof plumbing, plasterboard fixing, painting (apprenticeship on the back of every can), tiling, carpet laying; are trades you do not have to complete an Tertiary apprenticeship in. To obtain your licence for this you have to work on site for a while, get 3 references and sit a test/interview with consumer affairs, and if you pass you get your licence.

Tongue in cheek HoF

Truthfully, it may seem a long time but you've come this far already - get your Year 12. You may regret not doing it later (Get off here for a start, and go and give it your best shot)
