To be honest I'd rather put up with a bad HFL umpire than have a club bloke do it. Fair dinkum some of those blokes are outright cheats! So I hope they've got enough to avoid the club umpire situation.

Maybe you could put your hand up to be your club's umpire, just to make sure it's all fair. I hear there's no pay and plenty of abuse. Sounds like a good deal.

Mt Lofty v Modbury Trial- Fairly uneventful, ugly affair. Very blustery conditions on a big exposed deck made it very hard for both teams to string together many good passages of play. Positives for Lofty would be the fact they controlled most of the first three quarters and looked the more polished of the two sides. Matt Penny was solid up forward and Joel Brown dominated all over the ground. Both of these blokes look like they are in for very productive seasons. Pipes Stapleton was brilliant in his first outing as official club captain. We faded in the last kicking into an impossible breeze which was disappointing. Overall, conditions made it hard for both teams to get a great deal out of the game, good to gain some match fitness though I guess.

The IB trail at Morphett Vale was played under similar circumstances all the play was down the one end all day and kicking goals was tricky. This made Sauce’s six a bit of a standout.

Just heard that Onkas knocked off Edwardstown by a couple of goals in a Trail Game there tonight. Could have won by bout 10 goals if they kicked straight. Something like 5-18 to 4-1. noticed they have 5 or 6 new recuits who looked the goods. could be flying below the radar i recon.

Uraidla Vs Broadview @ Broadview

A's- 2 goal winners in a 3 quater match, look pretty good for there first hitout for the yr. Both Mclean brothers stared along with regular best Paul 'Pucka' Richards. New recruit Matt Down was also a standout

B's- 3 or 4 goal winners. Good team effort with some good free flowing, running football. Some young players comin up from senior colt ranks were impressive. Should be a much more competitive team in 09

Birdies vs Pultney at the Rooster Velodrome.

Apparently Ian Pierre might be fronting up... love the big Sarge!

Good to see a few Hills teams doing well against good quality Amatuer league clubs. Both Broadies and Towns have been in div 1 recently and are quality teams. Add to this Lofty's good performances against new Div 1 clubs SHOCs and Modbury. The standard of the Hills comp is looking better all the time. My gut feeling is that the top hills teams would in the top couple of Div 2, middle of the road div 1. Oh, and before any amatuer league supporters start bleating about how many players each of these teams were missing for these trials, the same is always the case for the opposition so it is a flawed argument. Eg- Modbury apparently had 5 or 6 A graders missing on the weekend- Lofty had at least 7 missing (Billy, Buckets, O'Connor, Davies, Pistols, Baldy and J Temme). Go Hills footy!

10 goal win today by the Roosters in a 3 quarter game...
good signs, although you can't always read too much into a trial match.

Any truth that Lenswood are going to reform and join the Hills 'C' grade comp? What colours were they before they merged? Green and White?

Birdwood play Pultney (Div 4, I think) and win by 10.
Uraidla play Broadview (Div 2) and win by a couple.

Both teams play off in round 1!

Should be a good match up, I rekon a div 2 side would knock a dive 4 side by 10 to 12 goals?
Any thoughts???

How did Rooster recruits go? Bout 10 I heard, new to side?

Reynella played Mt Barker yesterday and even though there was no scoreboard i'm pretty sure Reynella won pretty comfortably. I heard Mt Barker had a couple out though.
Maybe lacking in a little height from the looks of it.
