Where did you get the "bowl-off" idea from Donkey. Hear it bandied around Saturday did ya. ;)

QLD did that two years ago. and the opponents?? Victoria. Just a bit of payback in the last two games for the vics.
Vic deserve the right to only need a draw. they finished top. have not given up any points at all this year.

Qld are 9/200 and seem keen to go home, the last two batsmen were out bowled after letting the ball go!

Yes you are right, of course they are going to roll up a road for a five day final. There not going to make a green top and have the game over in three days. QLD could of been in the game if they could catch, maybe even bowled VIC out for 300. It has looked like QLD lost interest after the first hour day one. The way they batted today was laughable, the ball is keeping a bit low and there playing back. Will be a good WIN for the VICS after all the time that was lost.

It's tit-for-tat between Victoria and Queensland - in 2003/04 Victoria made 710; in 2005/06 Queensland made 6/900 declared. Perhaps they should make the final six days in length, if over a days play is lost.

In that 2005/06 final, Queensland set a first-class record (which still stands) for the highest score at the fall of the fourth wicket - 4/878.

And look at when Watson was dismissed:

32.1 Nannes to Watson, no run, full delivery on leg stump and he clips it to mid wicket
32.2 Nannes to Watson, no run, angled directly across the right hander and he leaves
32.3 Nannes to Watson, no run, Watson is beaten outside off stump but it doesn't even carry through to Wade behind the stumps
32.4 Nannes to Watson, FOUR, half volley on middle stump and Watson gives it the full face of the bat with perfect timing straight back past the bowler for four
32.5 Nannes to Watson, no run, defended into the gully
32.6 Nannes to Watson, no run, angled across Watson again but this one makes him play and he is beaten byt the angle
32.6 Nannes to Watson, OUT, on the seventh ball of the over Nannes takes a fine edge from Watson as he plays the wrong line and Wade completes the catch
SR Watson c Wade b Nannes 13 (40m 28b 2x4 0x6) SR: 46.42
End of over 33 (4 runs) - Queensland 98/3
DP Nannes 10-2-41-1
LA Carseldine 11* (34b 1x4)

So twice his average takes a slip in Shield Finals in unusual circumstances.

Why play a final then??? All I'm saying is that its about the least exciting game of the year and it should be a showcase of the best two teams rather than one team trying to block thier way to a premiership, how exciting!!

Fair dinkum Swampy there have been some great finals over the years. The last time the backs won the shield was one of the most exciting games I ever seen and I've followed the game for over thirty years. I also went to the final at the Gabba when Stewie Magill saved the day..with the bat!

The solution? A six day final.

IF watson and qld held there catches, the day 2 loss due to rain could have meant nothing. there woulda been a result either way if they held rogers in the 20's, held white on 45 or 46 or held wade on 35 or 56. Catches win matches, or in Qld's case, catches loses them. No need for a change IMO, but if there one to be made, i would be for the 6 day final.
